Times have changed.....
Hello,Everybody and Happy Holidays.I finally went out and got myself a fairly decent road bike.Boy oh boy have things in the bicycle industry changed.I treated myself to a Trek 1000 only because it fit into my budget(cash) and I've been away from longer bicycle rides for a number of years. What suburban kid didn't have a bicycle(s) when they were growing up? I had several-Columbia,Schwinn,Raleigh,Panasonic.From 20"coaster brakes and 26" rimmed,3spd."English Racers."My first serious road bike was a Panasonic 10 gear of unknown vintage....It just feels good to be back on 2 wheels and as Lance says I feel like I'm 14 when I'm on a bike.Exactly!! Now that I have kids of my own,(and a job, mortgage, wife, car, truck, boat, etc)the simple act of pedaling a bicycle around the neighborhood,or around town is refreshing.I surprised myself (and my lovely wife) with this exuberance.Ahhh..Life is good!!!!

Welcome back to cycling reborn. Enjoy the Trek, it should treat you well.

Sounds like nothing has changed. The essence of cycling is what it was when the Wright brothers were tooling around Akron on their one-speeds.

Ya',mid-life crisis.I figure there is worse things I could be doing.....My pal is having a mid-life thing as well..He went and got tattooed and ordered up a Chrysler convertible. The thing with me is that I always rode some kind of bicycle since I was a little fella' but now that the kids are a bit older and I've got some free time I went for one of these aluminum framed, new milenium, indexed roadsters. That's what I mean about things changing in the industry. The new bikes available are awesome. It's about 40 degrees out and we had some serious rain but I still went riding.Feels good to remember how much I enjoy pedaling. This is a great forum with lots of great information and chat. Thanks and happy everything.
