Anyone else get a Glorious Ride in the Portland Metro Area Today?

I did. :)

SpokesInMyPoop 12-29-05 04:59 PM

wtf did you 'bomb??

stink bomb :(

randya 12-29-05 05:09 PM

ZooBomb.

I've been thinking of moving up to portland... is it tough to ride alot because of the rain or do you just ride anyway, wet or dry? Are the drivers downtown there pretty conscious of riders?

randya 12-29-05 06:38 PM

1. Ride anyway.

2. Downtown is easy, traffic signals are timed to 12 - 15 mph.

Shifty 12-29-05 11:38 PM

I rode 20 miles before rain chased me home, Eugene.

randya 12-29-05 11:45 PM

Ah yes, the rain. It's been pretty intense lately. I'm guessing we'll see some sun about mid January. ;)

Shifty 12-30-05 11:10 AM

Is that when you travel to Arizona Randya?

randya 12-30-05 12:38 PM

I wish. I used to go XC skiing in New Mexico over President's Day weekend in Feb, but it's been a while...

I missed the break this morning and when I got to work all the little bits that weren't covered by my raingear were soaked. Weather report says 2" of rain each day plus flooding for the next three days. I think this is the first time we've seen rain like this this century.

Portis 12-30-05 12:53 PM

I had my normal sunrise ride today. It was beautifl as always. Of course it's always beautiful in the Portland area. We have the best place in the world to ride if you as me.

BTW, is kansas still considered to be in the portland metro area? ;) Just checking...

Shifty 12-30-05 04:38 PM

Snow in the Cascades, dust off those skis Randya, it's time to ski. Happy New Year to you!

peregrine 12-30-05 09:26 PM

whoo hoo!!

Shifty, I passed by Willamette Pass two days ago and it was snowing - LOTS of new snow!! There's even more snow here in Bend/Sunriver. I'm just really glad it's not as bad as last year :)
Happy New Year!

randya 12-30-05 09:33 PM

Drenched by rain on the way home today, too! Had a nice stop off at the Post Office, though.

I ride anyway. You just need some raingear AND fenders! and you're set. When I moved to Portland, all the rain bothered me quite a lot the first year or so but after that I started to actually like it  It hardly ever snows, and the water hardly ever freezes. IMO, drivers are quite conscious and tolerant of cyclists, especially if you cooperate with them too. Also, it's a beautiful area and if you're an outdoors enthusiast, there's lots to do nearby. I'll really miss it when the time comes to have to move :(

Whoo Hoo!! I think the tropical heat wave is over for now! You get to ski tomorrow you lucky girl!! If you come back over Willamette Pass you'll have to send me another report! Have fun, and Happy New Year to you too.
:D

No sun today, but no rain either! After the last few weeks, any dry ride is a glorious ride! The rain held off for ZooBomb last Sunday night, also, until I was almost home.

SpokesInMyPoop 01-05-06 06:08 PM

oh yes :D

I biked to work yesterday, and it was fookin' dry :D!

I hit a friend's house about a mile away from work, drank 3 snow plows, 3 shots of black velvet, and kicked a tire 3 times.

I was gonna bus it home, but once I found out that my bus wouldn't come for another hour, I said f**k it and rode home all messed up.

I swear, one of these days I'll make it out to a Zoobomb :( kinda sucks, because I anticipated more freetime on Sundays since my gf used to be in the RCGFB (rose city gay freedom band...*fabulous*), but she ditched it this year.

No

Bekologist 01-05-06 09:39 PM

pouring down wet this morning in Seattle. The greater Portland area :) Riding in the rain is more fun if you don't let it bother you. I find chewing gum like a jaded soda jerk quite relaxing while riding in heavy rain.

On a plus side to all this precipitation, i'm going ski camping this weekend out on Mount Rainier for the first camping trip of year.

peregrine 01-05-06 09:50 PM

alright! have fun this weekend, Bekologist!

I have a similar experience with heavy rain, and if while waiting at a traffic light, I notice a driver looking at me like "wth, are you freakin' crazy?!", that brings a kinda manic smile to my face :D I also hum a song to myself.

rnorris 01-06-06 06:02 PM

I also live and work in the Seattle area, but started a work assignment last year that puts me in Portland for a few days 4 to 5 times a year. I usually stay at the Kennedy School McMenamin's, they're cool about having bikes in rooms, and the neighborhood gives a pleasant start for rides in all directions. Had some great rides in Portland, in the Gorge, and out toward Camas last year and looking forward to more!

gonesh9 01-06-06 06:11 PM

Every day I get a glorious ride in the Portland area. :)

Extra fun this morning in the heavy rain, glad I just put on my new fenders.

SpokesInMyPoop 01-09-06 05:41 PM

not a bad ride to work today. couldn't find my smokes this morning, and nearly tore my hair outta my scalp :( in conclusion, I was 10 minutes late

randya 01-13-06 12:47 AM

More glorious liquid sunshine today! I'm glad I live on a hill that's not going to move or flood. :p
