The roubaix

I just got a specialized 2005 roubaix brand new with a triple crank in the front
all 105 components cept the rear deralier (think i spelled it right) is ultegra
I heard that it was named after a famous endurance bicycle race in france I haven't been able to find much about it
Why is it an "endurance race"
i mean i've found out its a long ride but what makes it an Endurance race?

Its over really bad cobblestone roads in often times really bad weather.

shishcabob30 01-02-06 05:05 PM

yeh i guess that would make it an endurance race

I don't ride on cobblestone, but the Specialized/Roubaix does have considerable less road buzz transfer to the bars or saddle.

You will probably find that the cassette is a Tiagra and the chain a Sora, a level or two below 105. My chain did wear out at 5k kl. mark and we replaced the cassette and the chain with an Ultegra set.

Enjoy your new ride.

umm...paris-roubaix is a seperate race, not a part of the tour. thats not to say that there arent parts of the tour that are on cobbles, but that pic is of George Hincapie in Paris-roubaix, the seperate spring classic race.

Note, however the Fuji Roubaix doesn't have the relaxed geometry as the Specialized version. Anyone know where I can watch Paris-Roubaix in the states this year? Does OLN cover it?

Grasschopper 01-03-06 07:57 AM

Well OLN covered it last year...it was a great race...also check out Ronde Van Vlaanderen (also called the Tour of Flanders) which I like simply because it is neat to see a professional rider walking his bike up a hill. :D
