The Park Tool School
 

Has anyone experienced any of the Park Tool Schools? They are offered by local LBS by a Park tool mechanic graduate. Yesterday I attended a four four $75 class that covered basics bicycle. Most of the stuff I knew but we did recieve a student manual that has all the details. The longer clinics includes the basics, as well as topics like these:

• Hands on wheel truing
• Bearing service and adjustment (headset, bottom bracket and hubs)
• Hands-on brake adjustments (pads and cables)
• Derailleur adjustments (cable, indexing, limits and shifters)
• Stem, bar and seat post adjustment

They sound like a great deal. I am going to taking the 12 hour course coming up in feb. at my LBS.

I took the class... it was 6 weeks, twice a week for two hours. It was very thorough and I got a lot out of it. Still, I probably need to take the class again. Most everyone had a lot of experience with bikes except me and this other woman, so it moved a little fast for us, but we still got good stuff out of it.

Great class, if you don't apply it right away though you'll forget. I got my hands on a friends bike and did a total overhaul (except cables). That mattered just as much as the class itself in some ways.

Are they classes run through Park Tool, or LBS? In other words where would first contact be made?

I think it depends on who the Park Tool rep is. In Chicago, the rep there wasn't running his classes out of the bike shop where he worked. He ran them out of this old rickety loft on the south side that was a great garage with lots of repair tools and stuff.
