Texas wind today....OUCH

So I began my commute home today and immediately ran into some fierce wind. Probably the fiercest since I got back into riding. HFC, I was getting blown from side to side, literally. I know it's good for me, but wow, I was just beaten. It's good though because I needed it to get me shaped up.

Like a friend of mine says, every ride to take you need to hate your bike at some point in the ride. That way you know you're getting a workout.

I feel your pain. The wind has been pretty bad lately (Fort Worth/Arlington area). Seems to always pick up more on the weekends when I get time to ride. A few weeks ago I did a ride where the wind was consistently in the 25-30 mph range with gusts over 40. It was a beat down. It is not a good thing to have to struggle to go down hill.

Wind was blowing ice pellets into my face this morning at the tail end of my ride. I'm glad it waited because that would have been a painful couple of hours otherwise. It was painful enough for one mile of it.

Wind in the DFW area has been crazy for the last several weeks. Today it seemed to be coming from all kinds if directions so you never caught a break no matter what direction you were going.

I've been lucky the last two days, going from the White Rock area to Allen. Yesterday, I had strong winds pushing me up the road. My wife and kids were up that way for a doctor's appointment, so I rode home with them. This morning the wind was out of the south again, pushing me up the road. Then it had turned around by the time I was heading home, (although it was a little squirrelly).

Pretty much whichever I'm closest to, when I think of something I need. Richardson Bike Shop is pretty close to my house, (the White Rock location), but my favorite shop is Don Johle's Bike World in Garland. They don't have the "lycra snob" attitude that you find in some shops.

And then there's Plano Cycle & Fitness, The Bicycle Exchange in Carrollton, the Bike Shop at Jupiter and Arapaho in Richardson and Bicycles Plus at Skillman and Abrams.

I get as much stuff as I can from the bargain bins and then I even pick up some stuff at Academy.

I'm going to have to go down and ride to White Rock Lake some time. I have a feeling it is an overrated ride, am I wrong?

Also, some Sunday soon a friend and I are going to ride from Denton to FW for the all you can eat pancakes at Spiral Diner (an all vegan restaurant).

If anyone is interested in riding with us let me know.

The path around White Rock Lake is a nine mile obstacle course. White Rock Lake is a favorite route for runners and if you ride the path on a weekend, you will have to contend with a LOT of them. Better to ride on East and West Lawther Rd. when going North and South.

Otherwise, White Rock Lake can be a nice scenic, though short, ride.

I don't know about that. Pea gravel at 80mph leaves permanent dents...in bike, helmet and face. Hurts like a bugger too

I'm not really the one ask. I don't do a whole lot of recreational riding. I tend to like having a destination, so I only hop on White Rock's MUP, if it is on my way to get somewhere. I did do the full loop once, around 3:00am and that was fun. If only because I was the only one on the path.
