Yet another vote for Cycling Plus. Bicycling! feels sanitized by comparison. One gets the feeling that Cycling Plus is written by real cycling enthusiasts (instead of mere writers/reporters). And the ride reports aren't bad at all--they're a healthy reminder that cycling is about ride ride ride rather than buy buy buy. The ride reports are, admittedly, "all in the UK", but, hey, it's a British magazine!

For regular motorists, I like a magazine that will fit in a seat bag, like this:

If you have a reasonably sized library around you, I bet they have Bicycling and some back issues of it. You can take a look to see if it's for you or not.

Cycling Plus always has great nutrition and health tips. I like ProCycling for the features on riders and the great page-spread photos.

Thanks good answers.
I'm getting Bicycling. |
A Cycling Plus subscription costs as much as the bike that I'm riding right now.

Cycle Sport (america) is good.
A new favorite is ROAD Magazine. |
if you're new, read Bicycling for one year, after you've seen 12 issues, any further issues will merely be repeats. After that try Velonews

velonews for racing news (or pro cycling or cyclesport out of the UK).
+1 on the cycling plus. It is one of the only unbiased magazines I've seen. If they don't like something, they state it. The ride reports are good but UK specific unless it's touring Europe or Africa. For me the Retro section alone is worth it, I love Hilary Stone's writing. downside? they review bikes/components/clothing not readily available here in US. One other good magazine not mentioned is Asphalt (all road all the time) the only problem is that it's rather sporadic. Neither asphalt, cycling plus or Bicycling cover racing worth a damn. marty |
Also pretty good reading after you've gotten into bicycles, the Rivendell Reader and Vintage Bicycle Quarterly.
