Duct Tape?
I've seen notes from several people who say they always keep some duct tape in their "on-board" tool bag. Is this to crutch a blown-out tire, or what? Thanks in advance.

I have seen duct tape hold a bike together to finish the ride and get the bike home. Deraileur broke. Duct tape it tight and turn bike into temp single speed.

When I tour I keep 2 or 3' of duct tape wraped arround the seat post of the touring bike for emergancy repairs. It has come in handy more than once. On the road bike close to home i dont bother with it thouugh

A buddy lost one of his brake pads off his V- brakes. I used duct tape on the metal brake surface and oil on the rim surface. He finished the technical descent and the ride. Without the duct tape, he surely would've scraped his rim...$$$

I've used it as an impromptu elastoplast as well. Admittedly not whilst cycling. I caught a power kite string, which burnt straight through my skin. Didn't want to get sand in it, so out came the duct tape! (This was in Norfolk in November - it didn't hurt until I got warm again 8 hours later! 
)

I keep some duct tape in the panniers. I have used it more than once to repair a blown-out tire casing.

So, the consensus seems to be that the tape is used for anything that it's needed for. . . and from what I've read there are a lot of uses.

Duct tape is perfect for anything, along with WD-40. If it sticks too much, use WD-40, if it doesn't stick enough, use Duct Tape.

I rebound a dictionary with duct tape. Also, an older student used it during a field trip to tie up another student who was unruly.

I like a regional pronunciation of duct tape: duck tape. I've even seen the stuff marketed under the brand name Duck Tape. I imagine a perfect tool kit contains duct tape, WD-40, and vise grip pliers.

I always carry duct tape and small ties on all rides, the tape could be used along the sidewall and the ties to pinch off a tube. Also in an emergency you can use it as a bandage. The list could go on and on, better to have than have not

And it's not always about the bike (to not coin a phrase!)...others on the forums may remember my story about fixing our granddaughters diaper with ductape when it became unstuck on a ride and we didn't have any spares.
