Where to donate a bike in Dallas?

My wife and I just got new bikes and I would like to donate her ’93-ish Mongoose mountain bike. It’s very used and nothing fancy, but is in 100% working order.

We live in an apartment and don’t have the space to have two extra bikes sitting around. My brother is taking my Fuji, but we’d like to donate the Mongoose ASAP. I've looked around the web and on the DORBA website but don't see anything.

Thanks in advance!

Just about any Goodwill store or donation center will take it off your hands.

Where, in Dallas, do you live?

Hey M5 -

I thought about giving to the GW, but I was hoping to find somewhere that specifically needed bikes - like youth groups, etc. I'm going to keep looking.

BTW, we live by the Galleria - how about you?

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm a few miles east of White Rock Lake.

Maybe call Richardson Bike Mart and see if they know of someplace to donate it.

You could lock it up, in North Dallas, send me the combination and I'll pick it up. (If it doesn't fit me, my wife or kids, I can always use the parts for one of my other bikes ;) ).

Leave it at Jamestown Park or Valley View Mall. Somebody will come by and take it. Of course they will probably be drunk and drop it into a creek, after they get a flat tire.

For sure it would be gone quick if left at Valley View. Maybe I should do a little social experiment and film the results! :-)

I'll give Richardson BM a call. Thanks again!

Try your local Special Olympics. They are always looking for bicycles (and coaches :) ).

There is (or was?) a group called "Bikes for Kids" in Dallas, but their website seems to be no longer there. You could also try calling a church or two. Most churches know needy families that could use donate items.

If you donate a good condition bike to Goodwill or Salvation Army, there's a good chance the bike will be purchased by a reseller and end up on craigslist or ebay.
