Cycling for fun and profit
Well still being jobless ive pretty much given up hope of getting your standard fair of jobs like pretty much any thing around here. So ive decided to say the hell with it all and start up my own little bycycle delivery service. I figure its a pretty empty market around where i live. The streets are not so busy as to make your normal bike curiour a time saver in the sence it is in newyork for example. But what about those packages that need to go across town or even say 20 miles away and need to be there today?
Well thats my idea any how on how to promote my little buiss. Question i have is just how the heck do i aproach a perspective client the first time?I mean realy these potential customers wont know who the heck i even am. So how would you all go about asking them if they need a package delivered?
And what about legalities like well uh what if som one asks me to deleiver somethign and it turns out to be how shall we say less than legal? Obviously im not gona ask people what im delivering as its realy none of my damn buissness. Obviously the cops cant just for example make me open a package or open it them selves with probable cause.

The busy streets of a big city is what make a bike courier a good option for a customer needing a quick delivery. In a smaller town, without significant traffic, someone needing a quick delivery will just drive it themselves.

Client won't care about terrain. Probably need to just charge by distance, plus a pickup fee. Say $5-10 plus 50 cents per mile? Just call around to a car-based courier and find out what they charge. Probably .65/mile I'd guess.
Then call a local law firm, they are most likely to use a courier. Ask how many deliveries they have and what they use now, then ask if they are interested in a lower cost alternative.
It will be tough, and don't expect to get rich. But maybe you can afford to eat at least.
