I'm just reporting what I see in my own area; it's semi-rural so there's a lot of "burb-necks" on the road. If I was down in Vancouver or in a Portland suburb, my definition of the worst driver would probably be more like the maniac teenagers in hopped up Mustangs and Integras--but you can hear them coming from their stereos! One thing that holds across the board, men are more territorial, aggressive, and at the same time more inattentive and unaware of their surroundings than women drivers.

Hmm the worst drivers are those who ride those mopeds. Usually they are like usually in the age of: 14-16, have no clues about traffic rules and not many clues overall..

I know almost everyone here hates SUV's, but I drive one AND happen to watch for cyclists or pedestrians.

You'd be surprised to know that there are many here with pickup & SUV's ... me for one since I just got a 4-door pickup.

Boy, I'd love to have this problem. A moped I could outrun.

I know what you really meant with this question, but given the scofflaw antics of cyclists around here, I'm tempted to say "Huffys, Magnas, Royce Unions, all manner of old ten-speeds, and even some nice bikes."

Fact is, the worst of our motorists still don't purposely sail right through stop signs and red lights at full speed, go the wrong way down one-way streets, drive the wrong way in their lane, or drive up and down the sidewalks in the business district at the peril of pedestrians.

[/rant]

As for the "real" question here... my vote goes to Jaguar owners. There aren't many around here, but the ones that we do have drive in a VERY peculiar fashion.

You haven't driven in downtown Seattle latey. Bit you do bring up a very valid point about some of the cyclists out there that are making a bad name for us that do obey the law.

OMG.You need to come to north long beach here in so cal.Heres a short list and these thing happen every single day.Park on the wrong side of street.Double park on wrong side of street.Park in middle of street.Run through stop signs just like there isnt one and i dont mean coasting.Pull onto my school grounds, drain the oil onto the grass to change it.Spend 15 minutes honking so there kid comes to the car vs a 30 second walk to get them.20 years of this sh$t and it hasnt changed.I called the police and they watched them go through the stop signs at the corner of the SCHOOL and after i watched at least 5 cars do this and he sat there,i went up to him and said, what about those cars? They were'nt bad enought.I would say the slowest car went through at 10mph.

OMG! And the driver has left the controls while stepping back to take a picture! It looks like the motor home has already left the road and is heading for the trees!

Seems, here in So Cal, that the minivan drivers are the worst. Maybe it's because they have too many distractions (kids) in the car.

I can't believe how many times I've seen minivan drivers move into lanes without even checking to see if someone is there.

Amazing.

I've never tried to drive my cell phone. I'm not even sure where the controls are to steer it. Can it even fit the driver? And where? Can it carry more than just the driver? And how many? I hadn't considered using my cell phone for transportation before but I guess I'll have to dismiss the idea entirely since you have indicated it is bad to do so.

Here in rural Indiana the problems I have encountered are not "red-necks" in pick-up trucks but rather the elderly who seem to have problems seeing, hearing and driving!

D'oh! I did forget to ask if there were bike racks available for cell phones.

I have an SUV and a truck.

I have had very few bad experiences with SUVs while on my bike. My last two bad experiences were on the same ride two days ago. I was going 35mph downhill (obviously) and a minivan coming up the hill, whose driver must have turned around from yelling at the kids and was startled to see me, proceded to drive off the road into the ditch. Fortunately, it was the side of the road opposite me. The other near miss was a sedan, whose driver saw me after entering an intersection from a stop sign, and after I had seen it coming and took evasive actions.

I have to admit, I like being IN a taxi who goes fast, but even then I fear for pedestrians. On a bike, they worry me, especially at intersections where there is a stop sign. Lights, they wait for, but stop signs to them are like "yeah, so?"

RV's!

Most of the guys driving these things are out of their league when driving the things and don't know how to respond to dangerous situations. Also they're in a hurry to get to the next campsite and aren't willing to slow down to give a cyclist a break.

The worst drivers I have encountered are bus drivers and other bicyclists . The bus drivers think that they own the road and you should not be in their way when they come and the other bicyclists ride wherever they want . I had a guy riding his bike toward me one time on the opposite side of the street, then I guess he wanted to go back the same way he came so he made a U turn coming across the street and into my bike lane and almost hitting me. Must have been an off duty bus driver.
