A few months back I wanted to put a basket on my Kona. My brother photoshopped my bike with a few of the baskets I liked and.......well.....................let's just say my bike is basketless.

"Cool front basket" is an oxymoron :D

i'm not too concerned about coolness. i'm a messenger, so anyone on a bike talking about cool better have some stage wins under their belt. And looks? Eh, whatever. if i wanted to look good i wouldn't be riding a bike. I'd be driving an Escalade.

I think Rivendell sells front baskets (rivbike.com).

the cool basket is the biggest, heaviest duty Wald front basket that fits on your bike. Go ask your LBS to show you the Wald selection in the QBP catalog or whoever the distributor is.... There's a neat 'dropped' front basket by wald that's funky...

Front baskets make the bike harder for me to handle when I'm off the bike. Cool looking to who? Are you trying to impress someone who finds front baskets cool? . Low-rider front baskets that center on the front axle would be more stable.

I've got an old steel wire basket on the front of my shopper bike. Along with huge, chrome baskets on the rear. If you have a bike shop that seems to specialize in vintage bikes, you can probably pick one up for next to nothing.

Oh, and I think my shopper is way cool, (comfort bars and spring loaded seat).

It's a Wald from Rivendell. When you lift the handle, the basket unlocks from the bracket and you can carry it with you. I've never thought of it as cool, but it's very practical. Sometimes her poodle rides in it.

yeah, i would get a rivendell — if only because they are the only company on the net that actually sells high quality baskets. except for one thing: shipping to hawaii is like twice the price of the basket.

concernicus 04-11-06 11:37 PM

you should get paul's for sure

I'm pretty sure that the baskets Riv sells are just run-of-the-mill Wald baskets, which any shop can get for you.

It's pretty much disappeared these days, but the hot setup a decade or so ago was to get the largest possible Wald (the full metal basket), and cut down the sides and front, giving you a large platform to bungie things to.

that paul rack is like 150 dollars. and it can only carry 25 pounds. or that much money I might as well get a fricking nitto front rack.

Lots of baskets here

Wicker baskets are surprisingly light and strong.

Respectfully disagree. Good luck on your search for a cool basket.
