Looking for a new bike
 

I want to buy a new bike, the thing is i dont know about parts/companies and quality.

I want a hard tail with good econemy front shocks, so gimi names/pics of what i should look for..

I want disk brakes cause in the rain these ones fade out instantly (location, finland)

I want 3 front gears (cogs?) and atleast 7 at the rear...

I've seen maxxis (sp) tires, the big ones, i want a rim that can take them

Prety much i need advice for a new bike... im heavy i do soft raoding daily (i dont take the road much, and i need a bike that can handle tons of stopies)

EDIT: oh yeah uh price, im not supa(h) rich... if i get my sumer job ill have ~600eu so the bike should be sub 1000eu

I am not sure what is availabe in finland. I do have an old bike brand called "batavus", I think that they still make bicycles.

If there is a local bicycle shop--start there and tell them what you are looking for--including price. chances are, the lbs can help you find a bike that is mechanically sound and in your budget.

re: brands, that I am not sure about in finland.

re: gearing: most entry level hardtail mountain bikes will have the gearing you are looking for.
decent brand names that give you a good bang for you buck (at least in the US) area: raleigh, fuji, jamis, khs, specialized, kona (has some decent entry level mtn bikes out there).

i saw a KONA here it was just what i wanted, but the disk brakes were hydraulic im not sure if thats a bad or good thing? cuase i have never use them and maintenance and tuning and all that...i still want disks but i dont know much about the fluids... it had the 4 point star thing chopper guys like... like a cross or a plus sign... all over pedals and all that...nice...

and yeah i will (after this sumer holiday thing, first day of summer) ask the "lbs" (some bike guy im guessing) about what they can offer... and then ill report back here to see how much it SHOULD be...

Im looking for somthing like this but *@#$ its like 200 eu more in the EU... and wow that costs some... here you can get norm bike for like 450eu and there like the "high grade" ones.. but i know you gota pay...

oh also i need a good top speed gear thing like a huge "3" gear up front and a tiny 7 8 or 9 gear at the back like some MTB got a realy slow top speed cause your pedeling too fast iv tried some out and i hated it.

Can't go wrong with a Kona- Hydraulic brakes work better than cable. The Hoss is a solid bike- but mainly for Heavy weight/ big riders. In fact- If you are on the "Clydesdale" side- (Big and Heavy) This is probably the best bike you can get.

yeah this hoss dee-lux is looking like the one

can anyone warn me before hand about getting hydraulic brakes?

so i checked them out... im sticking on getting deore but then heres for the hoss:
F/D Shimano Deore
R/D Shimano Deore XT

how dramatic whould it be having a deore xt F/D???
and is there anything wrong with the hoss?

XT is the sensible groupset to get- Almost as good as the top of the Range XTR but half the price. On the front derailler- I have a rubbish Acera. It has been on the bike for 5 years- still works perfectly so why change it? The front derailler does not need to be top quality.

Only thing wrong with the Hoss is that it is a bit heavy for me. Manufactured to cope with the heavy weight rider, Wheels can take the strain as can all the components. Only downside is that possibly the Fork could be a better grade so may be the first part to upgrade in a few years time.

Heavyweight riders have a problem keeping a "Normal" bike together. The Hoss is Made for just such a rider, and has a great pedigree behind it in Kona.

yeah the hoss sound just right for me lol... but now theres the DEE lux and the just hoss non de lux and its like 300eu diffrence now thats somthing to question... or is it? with that 300 coundt i get a serios fork? and its great maitence money, btw i think there both fuild brakes... but not exactly the same... coments on dee lux no NOT??

i found a great BS lol, "bs", i cant call it a LBS cuase its not so local but yeah LBS and its got park tools and the hoss and hoss dee lux so there there its just the money now lol... so yeah coments please...

EDIT: IM starting to think that i might get a raod type bike rather than a off roader??? but the thing is im planing to go for a forest trek with the bike soon in the summer...

I was just thinking, im planing for a 100+k (one way) trip by bike in to the forest and then some forest riding, this summer. you think my old bike can take it? Im going to the LBS to find a used jake (kona) or somthing like that... unless you think my old bike can take it, maybe getting a 1000eu off road bike is the best idea. UNLESS! the hoss can make that 100k with ease...

i think i found the ONE. is a NISHIKI TR29. i tried it out its SOOOO nice... and the shocks lock too! i loved it... i guess that kona is out for now cause this one costs me ~700eu a bit less... its an expirence, this bike, its smooth and its got some off raoding, OH and 28"rims!

the bad: gheto shifters and brakes.... and the shock RST...??? hydrualic with lock... i like the lock but do i like the RST??
