Cycling caps

I'm wondering who wears cycling caps while they are riding, and if they know what the bill is meant for?

* jack * 05-01-06 10:03 AM

is this a trick question?

Not to hijack the thread, but where can one find cool bike caps?

They don't exist.

OK, I'll bite. I wear them. The bill is a sun visor of sorts. When you need a bit of relief simply push it down, or if it's raining it can help keep the water out of your eyes. When you don't need it, push it back up.

The alternate use is to wear the things around town when you're not riding so people will think you're a complete dork. This way they'll tend to leave you alone and give you a wide path.

Can't be better than walking around town with clicky-clacky cleats, while wearing a helmet w/mirror, and spandex shorts (preferably with beer gut overhang), with or w/o bike. Pegs the dork-o-meter. Spandex bibs in town will make the meter spin itself up into orbit

This I don't get. It's past it's useful time on Earth.

This, however, I just picked up lest I burn the vent pattern on my bald head.

I find the bill to be the perfect length to keep the rain out of my eyes.

I live in Vancouver where it rains for 10 months of the year, so I couldn't imagine not having the traditional cycling cap.

(It's also surprisingly warm in the winter)

I wear the cycling cap when I work on the bikes. It helps get me in the mood.

I have a black CoolMax cycling cap. Spin it around backwards it keeps some sun off your neck, then you just gotta spin it around again if it starts raining or if the sun or wind gets nasty. Lots cooler than a baseball cap and fits under a helmet better too, when you gotta wear one of those. Funny how this style stuff works...bill in the front, you're a dork, bill in the back and you're hipper than ILTB in his 'Pitiful Lions' sweatshirt!

I'm trying to figure out what the guys who wear it at a 45 angle to purposefully look even dorkier are trying to do

Well i have this cap, with the bill. I don't know, seems like without it, it's not as useful. To me anyways.

You can find loads of caps on eBay. I recently bought one, new, from a seller called morpheus4123. Look up his auctions and you'll see he always has quite a few for sale (64 of them right now), and he was very quick to ship and leave feedback.

My LBS sells celeste Bianchi caps for $10. They're cool-lookin, the kind you saw Jan Ullrich wearing back in '03 during training rides.

Plus they help to soak up the sweat, keeping it out of your eyes and the bill helps as a visor.
Also, for those of us with shaved heads, it keeps us from getting burnt.

It's used as a secondary brake when slowing down. Most experienced bikers know to tilt their head up when braking to get the full effect.:D

This is going to keep me laughing all day....

I alternate my cap with my do-rag. Mostly for sweaticle reasons and to prevent over-sunning my hair challenged head through my helmet. Mine is from "Liquigas" just because it sorta matches my bike.

If only I could get my employer to sponsor a deportation from the land of the Hawkeye Heathens to the land of Yuengling Beer and the Nittany Lion; God's Country.
More cool caps. Good for wearing at a Whiteout of Buckeyes 17-10.

I really like the red-green-yellow boure cap that they're phasing out:
