Some questions
 

I'm a new Clydesdale, just a donut under 230
Bought an OCR 3 last month- traded in my Cypress.

I am using clips because I have wide feet and have pain on the sides when I ride if my shoes are too tight.
Any shoes with wide sizes out there?
Also is it that much of a noticable difference going clipless?
I ride about 60 miles a week.

I live in the Attleboro MA area and i am looking for some decent routes - smooth low traffic.

Any and all feedback is welcome.

Lots of Rail Trails in MA and RI, CT also.

I too have wide feet (11 EEE) and have found Sidi Mega series shoes to be a lifesaver. Mega means designed for wide feet. Sidi also makes narrow and regular shoes, so make sure you get the Megas. :beer:

Performance has the cannondale MTB shoe which works for me. Disadvantage is it uses the 2 point SPD clip system so won't work with Look/speedplay 3 point clips. Clips are the only way to ride with your distances. It makes pedaling so much easier, once you get used to it, you won't go back.

If you're a sandal kind of guy, there are actually SPD sandals too. Shimano and Lake make good ones. It seems like they would allow some adjustability. They may not be wide enough for you, but it may be worth checking.

Have you considered Power Bands? I had serious problems with toe clips chaffing my toes (two different sets), and I'm just not interested in riding clipless.

Extra wide - what about size 16 / 50 ?
 

So I'm ready to try clipless but haven't found any shoes that are 16's (a 50/51 European size) Anyone know of a source? When I find them, then I'll change the pedals to match whatever is required.

Who makes power bands? I definitely look into them.

I've ridden power bands. They're okay, but I actually found it harder to get out of the consistently than clipless. Either nashbar or performance carry them, but they don't fit on all pedals.

Heavy D, it just happens that I got my Power Grips from http://bikeparts.com simply because they ship to P.O. Box addresses, but google is full of suppliers. I can't do a comparison to clipless, but they're way better than toe clips. They come in two sizes, and the large will work for you, but I'm not sure all dealers carry both sizes. For what it's worth, I bought straps and pedals as a unit, cuz I'm not expecially mechanically inclined and that's not where I want to spend my time.

Power Grips do not require a special shoe, which was important to me, and the way I ride.
