i have a trek vapor 2. maybe 3 but i think 2. and it was 40 dollars and its super lightwieght and looks like because its adjustable it could fit a very large head. lol
also i came with a lifetime garentee and if you fall and hit your head and even if there is no physical damage you can send it in to trek and they will replace it. i had a bad fall on pavement and it got scratched up, so i sent it in and i asked if i could have a blue one instead, and they said sure and just sent me a brand new helmet. :D |
FWIW, Consumer Reports (June '06) rated The Trek modes Interval 2 Sport, and the Vapor 3 Sport as Unacceptable. They failed to meet the Federal government's standard for impact absorption.

I too am looking for a large helmet. head measures 25" to 25 1/4" and I haven't seen any that fit larger than 24 3/4" in the sites and catalogs.I've just gotten a bike after twenty or so years of not riding and, while I would never have dreamed of wearing one back then, the pavement looks rather hard and really far away from the perspective of my sixty year old body that would like to become a sixty one year old body. I know this sound picky, but I would prefer one that didn't have forty holes and long spikes (spike) out the back. I'm sure those are the most efficent, but I'd perfer something like a BMX helmet or the Bell Citi models. If I can't find something off the rack, I'd like to hear from anyone with experience in modifieng a slightly smaller helmet. I'm thinking of the kayaker's standby, minicell foam which can be carved, shaped, and sanded to almost any shape. Any suggestions or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

Try a Giro Atlas II. I have a 23" head and my Atlas is adjusted within two clicks of the smallest setting. The bike shop told me this helmet fit larger sized heads when I purchased it.

Thanks EDP773,I'll give the Giro Atlas a look.

I have a big head and I find that Giros generally fit me well, with a caveat. Giro has two lines of helmets, one with sizes, one that is one-size-fits-all. The one-size-fits-all helmets don't fit all, they don't fit me because they're too small! A Giro L/XL goes to 63 cm which is 7 7/8 US.

Bell Triton claims to fit up to 65cm, though I've tried them both and it feels about as big as the Giro Atlas II (I'm about 2-3 clicks from the max on either of them), so buy whichever feels more comfortable. They look nearly identical and seem to use the same adjustment mechanism, BTW.
