Torn Between Brooks Flyer and B67
 

I'm a weekend rider, doing some 50 miles cumulatively on Saturdays and Sundays. I'm not a big fellow....5 ft 6, weighing 160 lbs. I do most of my recreational biking on paved and gentle dirt roads on a mountain bike that has largely been converted also to a commuter. When I'm in the mood to ride over concrete and asphalt, I use my other bike which has a Brooks Flyer, which I love.

Am planning to get a sprung Brooks saddle for my MTB/commuter, but I'm torn between getting the Flyer or the B67. The flyer is more or less the same width as my present saddle, and I don't have any negative issues with that particular size. However, I'm attracted to the wider span of the B67. The problem is that the difference in width between the Flyer (170 mm) and the B67 (210 mm), is quite considerable. Had the B67 been about 190 mm, I would not hesitate in getting it, but 210 mm? Isn't that a little too wide, particularly for my size? Isn't that an overkill for the kind of riding I do? And would the B67 be much heavier than the Flyer?

I limit myself to these two choices because I am decided on purchasing a single sprung Brooks (and the Conquest is too narrow). While I'm tempted to get the B67 (since I already have a Flyer on my other bike), I don't exactly relish the thought that I may not like it as much as the Flyer. And I sort of don't want to bother wallbike with a return/exchange of goods, since that sort of thing rubs me the wrong way.

So, do I jump at getting the much wider B67? Or is that too wide for my bottom? I look forward to everyone's input. Thanks.

I'm 5'6", 115 lbs, and I love my B66(male version of B67, same width, just a tad longer than B67). Of course, I ride on a very upright posture and absolutely abhor any "bent" riding posture. If you got no issues with the flyer and ride a more aggresive posture, I say go for that one. On the other hand, since you already have one, I say go for the B67 just to try something new, then return if if you don't like it. Who knows, you just might like the B67 better than the flyer.

I ride both saddles, the B67 breaks in easier and is a little more forgiving on your behind than the flyer. I also use the 'S' or short versions of these saddles, the Champion S and Flyer S models are shorter and slightly wider than the standard.

The specs I've seen put the Champion and Flyer at 172w X 175, and the Champion S and Flyer S at 177w x 245. The B67 is 210 x 260, B67S is 210 x 235.

If your riding style is more upright, I'd recommend the B67; if you are using drop bars and/or putting more weight on your hands, the Champion S or Flyer S might be the way to go.

Thanks Foolish Heart, yes thats the B66 "S".

Ooops, I confused the B67 as the female version of the B66. B67 and B66 is pretty much identical, apart from the mounting. Turns out, I have the female version of the B66, which is the B66 "S". I'm a guy so it didnt really make any difference but if you're a gall you'd probably benefit in having the "S" versions.

No.

But I have gotten sore spots where my sit bones rest on the Champion Flyer S before the saddle was completely broken in.

B-67 = B-17 top with springs
Flyer = Pro top with springs

If you like to ride upright stick with the B-67 IMO. I have one and it works great. I am 5'9" and 149 lbs virtually no break in either.
