Yakima Rack - Getting too Old?

Hey guys.

I have had a yakima rack on the top of my camper shell on my truck for about five years now. The only thing is, there seems to be some play in the mounts that I've either never noticed or was never there at the beginning. Has this happened to anyone else? IThe attached link shows a mount very similar to mine, although it looks like they have modified it a little. The slippage seems to be both where the mount clamps the bars, and where the mount attaches to the roof. I can probably move the rack at least a cm side to side by pushing, so it's getting me a little worried. I am thinking about just gooping up the whole thing with some JB Weld, but then I could never get it off the truck.

Any help guys?

Thanks!

The mounts I have, have two rivets that holds the foot of the mount on and allows it to conform to the roof angle of the car. The rivets got very loose and made the rack rattle so I drilled them out and replaced them with grade 5 ,#6 machine screws with nylock nuts

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately it appears the the foot of each mount is still secured well, but there is play in between the foot and the mount that causes the movement. I think I will call Yakima today and get their take too.

BTW, has anyone ever used a regular wheel skewer in place of the locking ones that come with the bike racks? One of mine is missing - either fell off some how or was stolen, and I would love to just use a regular wheel skewer laying around. The diameter of regular skewers is quite a bit less though.

Thanks again.
