Is July the best time to buy 2006 bikes?

I'm in the market for a new $200-350 mountain bike and called a few LBS today. I asked for a 2005 Trek Bruiser1 and the lady was kind enough to let me know that they'll be having a sale during July when they phase out 06s and bring in the new 07s. I think i'm going to wait another month and get in on the sale but still continue to look around for possible deals.

Do most riders ditch their bikes and go for new model years during this time also?

If you aren't picky, you can get a good deal. I would try to find out what the stock is like for 2006 bikes in your size that you are interested in. The 2006 bike I want is already sold out everywhere and they aren't making more.

I asked a similar question here a week or so ago, apparently early fall is the time to buy the 2006's. But I guess everyplace is different, and depending on when that model of bike comes out

Like the above poster said, if they happen to have a bike you like and you feel confident it will be there to go on sale then go for it.

My case is the opposite, they are not telling me about any sales (even tho I know there will be one) and they only have really expensive bikes or a few cheap ones so to get the bike I want I have to order it.

To order it requires money down, so there is no way to have my bike there for the sale its eather buy it now, or wait and get the 07' :/ I am getting 5% off since I talked to the owner but thats not much.

Will you use the bike in the winter? The July sale is an attempt to transfer winter storage costs of less popular bikes to you, in exchange for a real or imagined discount.

Do you want to wait till July for a bike?...or will the next 2 months make that extra 5 to 10% savings worth it.
