moving across country?

if anyone can help me out i/d be very appreciative.

i live in philly, and am moving to portland, or. i have one bike, which i make my living on out here in philly, but it/s kinda a beater. my question is: which option would be a better use of my money. to sell my bike here and buy a new one in portland, or to take my bike apart and ship it to myself?

I guess it depends on the value of bike or more importently how much it means to you. Check out shipping rates from UPS USPS or FEDEX. If you have the tools, I'd probably do it unless my bike was a total POS.

Why buy anything that you only use sometimes, Why not Rent a Bike like the this. ?

Given how easy it is to get a good quality used bike for a reasonable price here, I would imagine selling it would be the easiest thing to do. I'm not aware of shipping costs, though. These guys in Portland would be able to give you the best advice, I think:

They put a lot of the good quality used bikes in Portland together, including my housemate's. They're a co-op, they're not interested in selling you something you don't need, and their collective knowledge pool of the area bike market is extensive.

If you want/need anymore Portland bike info/links, feel free to send me a PM. This is a great place to ride a bike.

Send everything and ride your bike cross country :)

Paint the beater white and lock it to something where a cyclist has gotten killed recently. Then buy a good bike in Portland.
