Performance/Supergo
 

Just read in the current issue of Bike Magazine that Performance has bought out Supergo. It also said that Supergo will continue to operate as a seperate entity though.

Dirtgrinder.. Yes, I have always taken my bikes to the Carlsbad Performance. Nearby, is a Supergo. So the Carlsbad Performance is closing down. I am effected because the Carlsbad Performance had a top notch Mechanic very well respected by all. He is being relocated to Performance's Escondido store- so I am content.. If they hadn't kept this Mechanic- I would have been through with Performance..
Performance runs Nashbar also.. Will this result in higher prices and fewer sales.. Don't understand the marketing of bikes.. Performance does not handle, like Cannondale bikes. Cannondale will not sell to Performance persae.. Yet, if the old store formerly under ownership seperate of Performance- Cannondale will contiue to market their bikes- but Not with Performance as a whole? I like Performance- but seems the variety of bikes they mraket is too limited..
Supergo- I never liked the place. Good variety of bikes- but high pressure sales tactics. If not for being the sole marketer of Specialized Armadillo Tires, I would never enter the joint...

Not exactly right.Performance,Nashbar, and Supergo are ALL owned by the same outfit.

These places are not what I consider a traditional bike store. but better to have them than none at all I guess.:crash: :eek:

So explain why this isn't exactly right. It's exactly what the article said.

I like performance and supergo, they carry different things alot of the times. As for high pressure at supergo, I never ran into that at Supergo by my house. I live about 5 miles from a performance and supergo they are less the 100ft away from each other. I like the mechanic at supergo and they are there on the weekend while performance does not have a mechanic working the weekend. I bought from both places, employees at both are friendly and not pushy.

Do you really believe everything becaues it's in a bike magazine article?That story is months old anyway.

Let's see, in your first sentence you insinuate that what I said was false. In your second sentence you state that it's old news. A little contradictory, don't you think?
I posted this for those who didn't know about it. It was in the Feb. 2003 issue of Bike so they obviously thought it might be news to someone as well. It was to me.
If a post doesn't interest you, move on. Negative comments don't benefit anyone.

Jayhop,a traditional bike shop,a step up from k-mart?They carry a few things but mostly bikes.Supergo has tons of choices.The one in fountain valley is two story,2nd story is all clothing,helments,shoes,gloves.I just got a new bike from there and zero pressure,well if you call knocking off $100 bucks on a 03 pressure,i buckled.Cyclezealot,i go to carlsbed every summer,stay the the best western on the beach.

Shokhead.. Best Western looks pretty nice. Didn't stay there, once did stay across the street from there at the Ocean Palms- nice hot tub after a beach cruise.. Love ridng down the coast in the summer.. That is not all what San Diego riding is about however.
Like riding up Palomar Mtn, out to Lake Henneshaw, to Lake Wohlford, or a Spring favorite- from Borrego Springs to Salton Sea and back.. So little rain of late; like to ride out there when desert flowers bloom- but little rain, little bloomin going on.
That makes for nice riding- just always hope we can have a shower afterwards..

I think I was to negetive about these stores. I just don't like to see them push out small independent stores. I buy almost all my parts from mailorder now. I try to promote a store in town ( about 45 min. away), but they usually don't have what I want and I can internet order it cheaper and faster. Still I try to promote this one store because the owner is second gen. owner and his sons are helping out now. I would trust my bikes to him. Most shops I don't trust to do the kind of work I like. I would not trust my bike to these big stores unless I knew the mech..

I said the STORy was old. That speaks nada about its credibility or correctness.Nothing negative,just setting the record straight.Wound too tight today,or maybe it's just bunched lycra?

I worked for Al Goldsmith in 1972-4, back when he and wife Susan were growing Bikecology into a multishop chain with mail order on the side. He later bought Supergo and adopted the name for his entire operation. I am a bit surprised by the announcement, since he is the sort of guy who really seems to enjoy running his own company. Incidentally, Performance has bought out several San Diego area bike shops.

Cyclezealot,back around 70 i got some pot from fallbrook,best i ever had,one hit stuff and i kept it for a year.I really only used it for special things like getting high.That was a loooooooooooong time ago.
