G-Map Pedometer?
 

I know this is sort of an off the wall question, but I'm trying to use this to chart out my distances and elevation, and I cant seem to get my elevation to work no matter where I try to make a map out. I chart out the map, save it, check for elevation, and I get nothing.

I used a current link of someone elses map and the elevation works fine. Am I missing something here?

Could just be a bug.
Try it with another web browser, perhaps?

I remember elev. not working for me once, then seemed to 'fix itself'

G-map is dependent on communication with a USGS database. Sometimes it (G-map) just can't get the data it needs from the USGS to draw the elevation profile.

I have problems with the elevation feature if I don't turn it on before starting my route. Don't know why.

Try routeslip.com, if that doesnt work, the USGS server could be on the fritz or something.

The elevation data does not actually come from google maps through their API. It is grabbed from another datasource(s) which apparently does not have complete coverage. I've seen intermittent availability of elevation data as well.

The elevation profile feature is very much a work in progress.

The DeLorme map people just responded to a complaint from my local club about a gross profiling error by their topo profile program. The Rockpile Road profile went under Lake Sonoma instead of taking the bridge over the lake. DeLorme said Oops and welcomed us and others to send profile corrections to a Revisions section of their web site. They said they are constantly working to correct and update the source file. See if their routine works for you.

Hm.. routeslip didnt work either. Eh well. :) Guess they dont have elevation mapped out for Oklahoma.

Off to look for a good topographic map I guess!

The weird thing is I tried making maps from all sorts of different places in the US, and I couldnt get it to work at any of them. Yet, the one map that I visited about 30 minutes ago still has the elevation listed on its map. I dont get it. :(

gmap-ped has elevation?i always use it for my runs but never knew it had elevation. mapmyrun.com has elevation :)

I guess there's different ways of computing elevation as well. If you do a loop from sea-level up a 15,000ft mountain and back, your destination is the same as your starting-point and the net elevation change is zero.

Trying to figure out total elevation climbed on a ride is gonna be tougher...

Doesnt work either. I think it has something to do with Oklahoma. Hm.

when you press elevation,do you get a bunch of jumbled up text?

G Map shows the elevation changes for the whole route, not just start to finish net change.

Oklahoma has elevation???? Maybe it's just not sensitive enough to accurately depict your 100 feet of climb in 200 miles?
