New Bike-wot is the best way to keep it safe?
I am hoping for a new bike due to arrive soon. I have not had much to do with new bikes !!!
Can anyone give me their experience please of the best "locking thingy" to use when I leave it outside of a shop or anywhere else for that matter . Is a chain the best ..... or a hoop. Is a padlock most secure with a key or a combination lock etc etc Any ideas based on you experience (bitter or otherwise) would be most welcome. Thanks |
Our favourite resource for all known cycling queries.
You have to tune your security strategy to the threat. Are you going for a cafe stop ride or leaving the bike unattended all day next to a crack house? I take a single U lock for general urban use, a U lock + a cheap cable for all day lockup at the railway station and the cable for leisure rides and touring. |

Could be a bit cumbersome on the seat post tho' |
Put a Soldsecure tested "gold" rated lock around the rear wheel and a beefy steel pole. Use a compact "silver" rated lock to secure the front wheel. Lock your bike, even when it is parked in your bedroom at night.

Only way to keep a bike secure is to keep your hand or your butt on it.
There are some top "A" rated locks about and the one I use is a Kryptonite D lock. This coupled with a Kryptonite cable to secure wheels and frame to an immovable object is a good second choice. In fact- this is what I even use in the Bike shed to secure all the bikes together. Problem is that if a thief wants your bike- it will be gone. At least a top grade lock and cable does slow them down a bit. |
Thanks very much indeed fella's. I appreciate your comments and will heed all of it and buy wisely.
Thanks again. |
