Torn calf muscle anyone?

I tore calf muscle over a week ago and was wondering if anyone has done the same and how long it took to recover. I ride very slow on the days I do ride so as not to damage it again. I've heard I could recover in 3-6 weeks. Is there anything I can do to speed up the healing process?

I had a torn calf muscle in mid may and it was pretty much healed in about 3 weeks. I was able to do light rides during that period. Don't know if there's any way to speed things up, though.

When I was a teenager, I tore my calf in three places. I was on crutches for about a week, and could resume normal activities(sprinting) at one month. It was a little tight for a good long while and took some extra TLC.

I did once (didn't warm up + nasty fall) and had to stay inactive for a month and then start back gradually. It depends on how bad it is torned really. In my case it was bad.

Depending on severity, expect it to be a while before you're back to full strength. When I tore mine, I was completely inactive for a week, then lifted weights (upper body) a couple of days the next week. During the third week, I started some slow (very careful) jogging and easy spinning and gradually worked back to full speed runs and rides. Luckily, I tore mine in January, so the weather was bad enough I didn't care too much that I was crippled.

Thanks for all the input. I rode very carefully today. It was more of a recovery ride than anything else. I didn't know if riding so soon would help or hinder. I have continued to lift weights with my upper body but will have to wait to see when I can resume my regular riding. Good thing is my HR is in a great zone to burn fat. At least one good thing is going to come of it.

Did mine a few years ago. My Physio was great, a tiny woman with fingers of iron. She said it was important to break up the scar before it became permanent as this could lead to repeated tears in the future. Something about the scar being hard and not flexable.

The important thing is NOT to rush the healing process. I took me about 6 weeks.

I'm not an expert just trying to remember what I was told so please correct me if I'm wrong.

I did this about two years ago and 3 weeks is about right. It hurts like hell doesn't it
