Does anyone ride a Terry Susan B
 

I've got the opportunity to buy a Terry Susan B 2006 at a good price for my long-legged, tall, teenaged daughter. Has anyone taken this bike for a ride or have an opinion about it?

Terry is a good brand. If the shoe fits....

It's a hybrid. Is she interested in general riding around or road cycling?
And how good is the price?

I am a dude so I don't ride the Terry Susan B.

Just a note to tell you that the frame is made of cromoly steel. It is a general purpose grade of steel that makes for a strong bicycle frame. Many bicycle commuters choose this frame material for its strength and durability. Most other bicycles in this price range feature aluminum frames. Based on the specs the Susan B is a great value and will stand up to daily use as a transportation bicycle. :)

Use the search function as this particular bicycle is often recommended.

The price is good--about $100 off the retail. We live in the mountains, on a dirt road, so I can't see getting a bike with skinny tires, and my daughter isn't comfortable with drop bars, so a flat-bar upright is best for her. The riding is either a three mile, very hilly, commute to school, or longer tour-type rides on pavement here in Vermont or in the Adirondacks. I doubt very much she is going to ride for speed. I like the fact that the Terry is a hybrid with great hill climbing gearing and is made of steel. But I've heard bad things about the shifters and the jury is out on the 26 inch wheels, so I was hoping to find someone who actually owned one of these.

I think you are over analyzing and asking for a bit much. You want off the shelf, no? You will have to make some compermises.

The Deore shifters should be fine. You can always upgrade them later.

As for wheels it's really personal perference. She might feel more stable on 26" wheels.

For what you want it might be a good idea to build up a frame set to her *exact* needs. I did this for my wife when she started riding and we haven't looked back.
