Gosh, I don't think it's her fault anyway. To be fined just because of that is downright lame. What's wrong with travelling......... I think this trip will be in her memories forever.

She should be able to go after Worldwide Adventures for the amount of the fine. Does Canadian law support consumers in this type of case?

When you travel outside the U.S., you should always check with the state department first. Considering the recent news stories about this subject, and considering that the woman is older, she should know that there is, and has been a nearly total ban on travel to Cuba for nearly 40 years. A simple call to the state department would've confirmed this. Maybe she has a case in Canadian courts, maybe not....
For those outside the U.S. who may not be familiar with or travel laws, our state department bans nearly all travel to Cuba, Libya, Iraq and North Korea.

From the article...
Allegedly Worldwide's brochure incorrectly states that U.S. law does not prohibit U.S. citizens from visiting Cuba, provided they flying from Canada or Mexico and not directly from a U.S. port.
If this brochure indeed stated this loophole, then they should be held accountable at least for false advertising.

I think it is stupid to fine her for just going to cuba on a cycling trip or any tourist trip for that matter. Hmm You know what will happen? IMO most of cuba lives in sub poverty levels. when the blocade is finally lifted, your tax dollars will go to rebuild the economy that the US destroyed! amazing isn't it?

economy that the US destroyed
U.S. or Fidel?

FYI Forbes says Fidel is worth $110 million right now. I thought communists were supposed to share the wealth.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness- LIBERTY meaning, in part, that we have the right to come and go as we please. We are a free people and our government should not have the right to tell us which nations we may or may not visit.

I blame the New York Yankees.

If Castro had made the team, none of this would have happened.

"I blame the New York Yankees."

When Castro was in the US he tried out for the Washington Senators, he did not make the team. Ironic eh?

I think to fine this woman is silly, well at least the amount $8000 plus.
