EI Athma and increasing speed

I have Exercise Induced Asthma and am on Singulair to manage it. When I am trying to increase my speed I have trouble breathing. I do not want to put any more drugs in my body. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to increase my speed without wheezing? I am getting frustrated because it takes so long to make any progress. I want to be able to have a extra long or extra fast ride where I have to stop because my muscles are tired not because I can't breath.
