Hidden Cost of cycling

New Clothing! Yes all of my pants and genes are falling off now even with the belt! I need to go get a whole new set of pants and genes. All the belts I found so far are too big for me! The horror!!! :D

badkarma 09-01-06 07:52 AM

I know the feeling bro, I just crank my belts down a lot to hold up the pants. Most of my pants/shorts are at least 4" too big in the waist.

justmeagain 09-01-06 08:19 AM

I lost 34 pounds from fall-spring, not necessarily due to cyling, and my pants size dropped from a 34 to a 30. Finding size 30-waist pants is rather hard; I actually paid retail for one pair in a desparate measure to get something that fit.

DataJunkie 09-01-06 08:28 AM

I am still in the process of replacing my normal wardrobe. Lost 45 lbs since may 05.
Now even some of my replacements need replacing.
That and I need new belts. Why are they so darn expensive?

Just poke holes farther along on the old ones and cinch 'em up tight!

What a dillema, huh? Way to go everyone!

Where exactly does one buy new 'genes'? ;) Congrats, feels good when clothes are too big.

Take the Cure! More Pizza! More Beer!

iNewton 09-01-06 09:39 AM

Genes? Jeans? :P

I went from 31 to 30 and 29, it sucks as well.. 31 was much easier to fin in stores. :\

It's a great feeling isn't it? Since the summer of '04 I've gone down from 244 to 182-190.

caligurl 09-01-06 09:57 AM

HAMMER MAN 09-01-06 10:00 AM

outstanding for the weight loss, way to go!!!!!!!!

twahl 09-01-06 10:01 AM

I think my genes are at least partially to blame for my extra pounds in the first place!

:0

aham23 09-01-06 10:22 AM

no cost at all, I just moved all the clothes that I hadn't worn in 8 years from the back of the closet to the front (I never gave up hope, or maybe I'm just a packrat). this included old belts that I had outgrown.

actually there was a cost: taking some of those clothes to the cleaners.

caligurl 09-01-06 10:43 AM

*gasp* you can't wear clothes that are 8 years old! they are all out of style!!!!! (now 20 years old.... 80's styles... ya... those you can wear  )

fashionista distress happening here!

leob1 09-01-06 10:45 AM

Send the old pants and belts to me. My job has kept me off the bike for a few weeks, and it shows, and I feel like poop, too.

Nermal 09-01-06 12:24 PM

Caligurl, keep in mind you are sometimes addressing men. Now, what's that word, again? Style?

+1

I have my "reserve" area of the closet. Right now I am moving out of the larger sizes into the middle sizes, and hope soon to be back in my smaller size area.

However, psychologically, I think it would be best to get rid of all of thse big size clothes, making the mental statement, "I will never use them again."

But, then again . . . :D

Congrats all on the weight loss.

"Style?" If it has a top part and two holes for legs or arms and one for either my waist or my head, it is in my style.

twahl 09-01-06 12:47 PM

As far as I'm concerned, style means nothing hangs out that I could get arrested for.

geo8rge 09-01-06 01:30 PM

It might be cheaper just to eat more.

DaveSANYYZ 09-01-06 02:06 PM

I had the same problem too, though my intent was not to loose weight. ~3 months of cycling; 30"->28" waist and 10 lbs lighter. I have to admit I did initially change diet for health, but now I need a steady dose of In-n-Out burgers to avoid turning into a pole.

If you want to get new belts or poke more holes in them, do it quick. I've already lost a few pants where the leg opening are all frayed. Too bad they're khakis and not jeans, so the fraying isn't in style. :p

I had my mom alter a lot of my old clothes so it would fit comfortably. I've continued to lose weight so a lot of the clothes that was altered fits be big again. I don't mind though :D

If you have to ask.... HA HA.
Caligurl: Style? What is that thing you are talking about? Must be one of those fancy shmancy cheeses. :D

Come to Asia! I went to buy a pair of pants in Hong Kong once, 29 waist. The guy in the store said, without any trace of irony, "sorry, we don't have any that big anymore" :D

When I was recently in Canada, I had a hell of a time trying to find pants that fit. Stupid cagers and their large waist sizes! ;)

notenspeed 09-02-06 07:28 AM

I bought a bike 3 weeks ago, and during week 2 I rode 4 times and lost 1.5 pounds. This past week the baby was sick, and I didn't get to ride. Plus our goal is to have our old house totally remodelled by 9-9, and it seems every spare second I have is spent painting.

So...I gained back the weight I lost. My problem is the opposite. I need to fit back into my other clothes, so that I don't have to buy new ones. So, I hope in this way biking actually saves me money.

But I haven't bought any cycling clothes yet, hmmm...;)

Good luck!
