$2 for cup of coffee, funny?

I thought this was funny, I was looking at a set of wheels on ebay and was looking to pick them up, when I emailed the seller to see if he accepts pickups this is what I got:

"You can pick up the wheels as long as you pay in advance and the transaction is complete before you arrive. Also, I usually ask for $2 for a cup of coffee from those who pick up items."

lol, can't say I know what to say to that, anyone ever ask for $2 for a cup of coffee if you're picking up, if anything I figured he'd give me $2 for a coffee to save him the time it takes to pack it up and ship.

Another Ebay rip-off artist. How original-- never seen one of those before. So if you have it shipped, he charges for "handling," and if you pick it up, he charges anyway.

Why I hate Ebay.

(I wish I could stop bidding ).

There are always those coffee bags that are sold... send him that, a packet of powered cream stuff, and maybe a sugar packet, call it a deal.

Does he want the pick up to be at 2:00 A.M. in a dark alley in the shady part of town as well?

Tell him you'll pick up the wheels on Monday. I don't know about where you live but here in St Louis McDonalds is giving free coffee on Mondays in September.

Mchaz: I was actually gonna give him cash since I figured he'd save money that way...since you lose money using paypal, but hey, what do I know.

It's two dollars. How much do you make an hour and how long will you have to work for that two dollars? Is two dollars really a deal breaker?

Maybe he just doesn't like strangers coming to his house. Fair enough.

I understand him wanting the deal completed before you arrive. It isn't unusual for someone to arrive at a pick-up, see the item, and then change their mind on the spot. It isn't right, but some buyers do it anyway.

As for the $2 for coffee, wtf is that about? Tell him you're not coming for a coffee date, you're coming to pick up your purchase. Ring doorbell, take wheels, say goodbye, and walk away.

The only thing obvious here is none of you have a sense of humor or fair play!? Personally, I would have required DRLski to show up with a 20 oz. skinny mocha, no foam.

You ask the person to hang around at a specific time so that you can pick up the item... A small fee seems perfectly appropriate... I wouldn't do it, but that means nothing.

I had someone charge me a $10 local pickup fee for a $10 bike... still worth it.

There are some place that sell for others (I forget the name) that charges a small fortune for shipping, and a $15 handling charge for local pickup... even though you have to arrange to get there during store hours only.

If it is not worth the $2, then don't bid.

The earlier suggestion to pick up the wheels and leave quickly without paying the $2... That is in effect an unethical act. If you agree to the condition of sale and then skip a part to save $2, it is just not right.

I personally think that if I sell, I will have a condition for any local pickups... the buyer must wear a red party hat and recite the Gettysburg Address. If you don't want to do it, then don't bid.
