Foot caught in fork.
 

Ever had your foot get stuck between the tire and the fork? Me neither till this morning. It was still dark, and i was at a stop sign. There was a car behind me and for some stupid reason i decided i was going to launch out of the intersection at warp speed.

Trouble is, i missed my left pedal with my clip and somehow my foot wedged in between the tire and the fork. It made a loud azz noise as the tire rubbed on my shoe. (My prostate also took a nice shot from the saddle nose.) My right foot was still clipped in and i was preparing to plant my head onto the roadway, when at the last second i turned the wheel to the right and my foot came out.

REally no worse for the wear although my ankle is slightly sore. Anyone else ever have this happen?

Yikes! I've had that happen, though not in a long time and I certainly wasn't clipped in! Good job not eating it!

Just yesterday my shoe managed to get sucked up by rear wheel and it got wedged in between the wheel and the seat stay while I was riding. I have no idea how it happened, but it locked up the rear wheel and when I tried to pull my shoe out, the shoe stayed and my foot didn't. I managed to maintain control of the bike, but I must have looked kind of silly standing in the road trying to get my shoe un-wedged. I bent a couple of spokes and the wheel will need to be trued now.

wow, freak accident. you are lucky your wheel didn't explode on you.

With your foot flying out in front of you like that, maybe your body is trying to tell you it's time to get a 'bent. :)

Hint: A similar phenom can befall you if you reach down to remove a pretty little red leaf caught in your your front brake. It can catch two fingers. . .real tight. Did you know you can come to a slow stop that way? Don't ask how I know this [as I look domn at an old scarred paw].

Thus, you clean the front tire, front brake, with your hand in front of the fork not behind. And you clean the rear tire with your thumb looped around the seatstay.

I learned the latter the hard way. Cleaning debris from my rear tire with my hand behind the seat tube, but in front of the seat stay, going 20+ mph. With a little too much pressure on the tire, my hand gets swept forward caught between the tire and the seat tube, locking the rear wheel. Came to a one hand screetching halt. Fortunately I didn't fall, and I was wearing gloves. Still bruised up my hand pretty good.

Another of my bad habits is adjusting the computer sensor's relationship to the wheel magnet on the fly, just tempting traumatic finger amputation.

I've done the finger in the brake thing while my bike was on the repair stand. Hurts like heck.

I got my foot caught in between the front tire and frame of a bike before. Hit a small pot hole, foot slipped off the peddal, jammed in there, and over I went.
While it's a great way to bring your bike to a stop RIGHT NOW, I don't recommend it as your back, arms, and head assist in the breaking as well as your foot (which swelled to about three times its size) :)

I was trying to remove a stick from my spokes once and got my hand jammed in the fork. Pedaled myself right over the handlebars.

This happened to my girlfriend this past Saturday. Only, she was going rather fast when it happened. I wasn't there to see it, but I saw the aftermath, and I must say it was impressive. Several broken spokes and, believe it or not, her carbon fiber fork on her new 2007 bike snapped in half! Fortunately, outside of a mildly banged up knee and a really bruised foot, she's ok.

I flipped over the bars, planted my face into the pavment and was left with my arm twisted and stuck in the fork as I lay on the ground with one tooth knocked out completely and another slightly chipped. No broken bones, no head injuries. Funny thing was I remember thinking as I went over the bars that I really should be wearing a helmet.

Seriously this did NOT happen to me just a co-worker.

Grocery bag hanging off the bars and than it went between the wheels/frame. He launched several feet into the air. Broken collarbone. His other job was being a chef at a restaurant so he was trying to cook with one hand for several weeks, not a good idea.

Many many years ago when I was little I got my foot stuck in the fork, but that's just because I was trying to stop my bike that way. :lol:

Never try to adjust your computer's sensor while riding, the spokes will catch your fingers!
