Ramona “Mojo” Guerrera. Hit and run, 2002, San Diego, while training for the California AIDS ride. I can’t believe that I can’t even find an obituary to confirm the date now.

6 years ago this morning, Pete Cornell along with 2 friends began another day's ride with less than 800 miles towards completion of a Prudhoe Bay, AK to Key West, FL bicycle journey. Shortly into the ride the 3 were hit by an 18 wheeler with Pete being instantly killed. Today I rode my 6th Pete's Memorial Ride completing 130 miles, shortened due to receiving a wasp sting to my right ear. A great friend, an excellent rider and a wonderful wall when riding into head winds.

Shelley Pulliam 1/25/2016 age 66 - while riding with her husband, Rick, on the back of their recumbent tandem bicycle in Bellevue, Michigan. They were hit by a distracted pickup driver (probably cell phone). Rick suffered traumatic brain injury, numerous broken bones, and is still receiving physical and mental therapy. He did buy a recumbent trike, and mostly rides on multi-use trails now.
Rest In Peace Shelley. You will long be remembered by all of us who loved you dearly.

Randy Bohn, former shop owner and good guy.

Just a couple of months younger than me, he started making retirement noises a while back and when the shop did not sell he began his Going Out of Business Sale. During that time a fellow from Asheville walked in, decided he wanted to be in the bike biz and bought the place early this year, and it's still going strong today. Randy was off to a well deserved spell of leisure, cycling and canoe fishing trips in Canada. Evidently, that spell did not last long.
If there's something you want to do, please go do it.

Lanie Kruszewski, 29 July 2012. A memorial ride was held in her honor. Richmond has adopted the tradition of installing 'ghost bikes' where the cyclists were killed (and the city doesn't remove them). Here's Lanie's.

Oldish pic of that Raleigh. It took a long time to be painted white, then it became overgrown and then festooned with reflectors and balloons and now a blinky. We pass it weekly returning from the river. Now they've cleared the lot and are building right beside it. Guy who hit her went home and sobered up before turning himself in late the next day with a normal BAL. Big stink about that.
Not a road you want to commute on, which is what she was doing. Main E-W commuter artery leading up from one of the few bridges across the James. Money in the adjacent neighborhoods mean it will never be widened or improved. Unhappy people crawling uphill or charging downhill in a city that still does not "get" bicycles. I'm surprised that's the only white bike on that hill.

My club lost a member Friday, Jan 11, 2019 while riding solo. The accident occurred at Pacific Coast Highway (PCH)/ Seal Beach Bl in Seal Beach (So California) at approximately 8:15 am. Details are sketchy but he was rear-ended by a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed (the posted speed is 50).
RIP Paul.

Well, this thread really sobered me up.... Bikers have always lived on the edge, and sometimes die there ...

Thursday morning in Danville, IL we lost Dave Tanner to cancer. For those who knew him he was a kind compassionate person, in life and other endeavors. He was in his later years a swim Coach for Bloomington North swim team. But in the early days of Race Across America he was one of those few who did the ride solo. I am going to miss him sitting at the check in center during the race every year here in Bloomington, as well as seeing him at other events on campus. He was a multiple degree holder from IU and taught in the Health Physical and Recreation department. His Obit was one full print page in the local paper, which I cannot even replicate here. There is no web page up yet but as another guy I knew from the RAAM, he will be missed. Sad, MH

A more detailed story on PCads tragic accident
https://www.recordonline.com/story/n...ng/3258748001/
From the video no or not much damage to the bike. Seems to be rear ended and then the suv seems to have kept travelling into the side of the road over a stop sign.
