For Chris516
He was coming home from Santa Anna to spend Christmas with his Family. We knew he was coming home for Christmas because of his post on Facebook. It was just a matter of time and we knew that the police would get him. Hope 88 stated on my thread that I was lying but in fact there is an area on the Solano county court web site ( https://courtconnect.solano.courts.ca...ate=&end_date= ) that states the truth. Remember to use the scroll at the right to see the whole proceedings to date. This has been incredibly difficult for my daughter Angela who lives in CA and I who live in PA. I can't be there for her and the pain she is going through. That's why I ask people who care about other bicyclists for prayer to help get her through. She wanted to have a Memorial ride for her Father and to improve the area to ride on Highway 113 for future bicyclists. She wanted to have T-Shirts that said "Ride for Robert" and try to make it an annual event for Bicycle safety awareness. I just thought I'd share that with you because you were wondering why his Folks weren't arrested for harboring a fugitive. Take care and ride safely. Connie P.S. I tried to private message you but you have to have at least 50 post to private message someone.

I'm about 75% sure we should forget about this section and retitle it Grief, retribution and people who don't listen to the Site Administrator.
We're happy some nagging pain was freed from your souls BUT SAVE YOURSELF FROM ANQUISH IN ANOTHER THREAD. You cannot just gripe about BMX in a section for ROAD BIKES?
DISCIPLINE! E'er and lest we lose our mind on an easy street corner! And Begone such that others feel their own peace.
Hereby submitted and duly!
Let me follow up that okay, you updated chris516 but let my remind you email contact is an option and you can leave a message on his member page with the message or a contact address.
You really shouldn't hijack the thread, no matter how righteous you feel the tale is. I believe our site admimistrator, Tom Stormcrowe may have started this topic and he's made his opinion clear already. Even if it was to agree with me it is his ruling.
We all remain pious and sad for the deceased and yet we do not politicize their deaths here. This is merely a JOURNAL. The place to scream is anywhere else in A&S. We ask that is whai you do for the remainder of the site's existance. Chronicle here, cry there.

Dang. Of the thousands of people that ran Ragnar Florida Keys 2012, had to be someone I remember (Team Who's Dale?). . .
Aaron Choen, 36 hit Wednesday on the Rickenbacker Causway. Died this morning. . .
This is what the car looked like (as seen on Miami Herald online article):

I hope everyone can help me share the message for communities to provide safe cycling options. Please share via email, Facebook, forum, etc. There were two cycling accidents in my city this week, one of them fatal. I created this video both as a tribute to my husband, a killed cyclist, and as a plea for communities to work toward safer cycling routes:

Jure Robic - 5 times NAAM winner.
24 September 2010 in a traffic accident when he was hit by a car on a forest road in Plavški Rovt near Jesenice, Slovenia.
Didn't know him, but was a fan. Came through my town of work during RAAM in 2010 (which he won). I went up on the road to see him in person, but missed him by about 5 or 10 minutes, if I remember correctly. Tremendous athlete.

Graham - sadly I have forgotten his surname; I didn't really know him that well (I was nine when he died), but he was a good friend and neighbour of my grandparents for at least 30 years. Took his MTB out for a short spin on 2nd January 2006, and presumably hit a pothole and went over the handlebars, although nobody knows - he was alone. Someone driving past found him in the hedge, and he was rushed into hospital. Two or three days later he died of serious brain injury, leaving a wife and two daughters. From what I remember he was an avid cyclist, covering 60 miles a day easily - something I aim to get to again. RIP.

I didn't know him. He's the third rider to be killed this year in Polk County, Oregon where I live and ride. All three were killed in broad daylight by sober drivers.

In memory of Mark Schneider of Pittsburgh, PA who passed away 55 years young. Mark somehow lost control of his bike during one of the Catoctin Challenge's descents. He was wearing a helmet but struck a metal mailbox at high speed.

I didn't know Mark but given all the good he has done for cyclists, he'll be missed.

Donny McCluskey
Hi,
This is my brother and a few of the particulars are not quite right. Donny was riding his bike in prep for a race following all the rules, bike lane, helmet, waiting for red light. He was riding 50 miles that day. While waiting for a light, a man in town and country van ran a red light, he saw he was going to be hit by chevy siverado, so he sped up but still got hit with his foot on the accelerator. The van lost control ultimately sliding on its side hitting Donny. Donny was thrown some 10 feet from his bike. The person who hit the van was under pain medications but who knows if that contributed to the accident-he was going thru the green light. The driver of the van never got any public recognition so I thought I would give him a shout - Armando Gomez. Thank you to the paramedic was on scene and started CPR but Donny never had a chance.
Donny was an amazing person, awesome athletic who loved life and living. He is missed every minute of every day.
I would like to do something positive for biking and bikers-please let me know if you have any ideas.
Thanks,
Patti

Mickey Shunick, Lafayette LA. May 19, 2012. Mickey disappeared while riding her bike home around 2 am. Cyclists from all over Louisiana came and joined search efforts. Today Brandon Lavergne plead guilty to murder and life in prison and revealed the details of her death. She fought valiantly against a serial killing monster. https://abcnews.go.com/US/mickey-shun...9#.UC66g47fC20

Iris Stagner 9.17.12
BikeTexas Board Member Iris Stagner Killed While Riding Home Monday Tuesday, September 18 2012
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of Iris Stagner, a member of the BikeTexas family. She worked as an administrator in Palo Pinto County and was a mother, wife, BikeTexas board member, friend, state leader in promoting bicycle safety and education, and avid bicycle racer. Iris was killed yesterday while doing what she loved, riding her bicycle. Her death is a terrible loss to Texas and the cycling community. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Butch Stagner, two daughters and the rest of her very close family.
According to an early news report from the Star-Telegram, Iris was crossing a bridge on U.S. 180 when a truck struck her from behind. An investigation is ongoing.
The Iris Stagner Memorial Fund at BikeTexas has been established at the request of Iris's family. All of the proceeds will go to the BikeTexas Share the Road Program for Bicyclist and Motorist Safety Education. Iris devoted a great deal of time and energy to bicycle safety in Palo Pinto County; she pushed to have Share the Road signs installed on local roads and also participated in BikeTexas Cyclists in Suits Lobby Day at the state capital.
Bernie Scheffler, close friend of Iris and owner of Trinity Bikes in Fort Worth said, "Iris fought for bicycle safety on the roads; it's tragically ironic that she was killed this way. She was that rare individual who crossed into every niche of bicycling."
The Board of Directors and staff of BikeTexas will miss Iris immensely and we send our prayers, condolences and love to Butch and her family. BikeTexas encourages photos of Iris Stagner and memories to be posted on the BikeTexas Facebook page.
Iris's memorial service will be Friday, Sept 21 at 2 PM at Indian Creek Baptist Church in Mineral Wells. Visitation is on Thursday, Sept 20 from 6-8 PM at Baum Carlock Baumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells. Details about a short memorial ride hosted by BikeTexas will be published as soon as they are finalized.

Even though this is a rather old story, it's about a remarkable person named Ian Hibell who traveled the globe on his bike for over 40 years.
He was killed on the 23rd of August in 2008 on the outskirts of the city of Athens by a driver who was said to be racing another car on the interstate. The driver hit Ian Hibell and fled the scene, and was arrested the next day. Court outcome is still unknown because of delays in the Greek judicial system.
