Cost to professionally paint a frame?

How much? I have an old cromoly MTB frame that I would like to get painted. What does a good paint job cost? I am not talking anything spectacular with fade jobs or flames or pin stripping just a decent paint job.

Not to be smart pants.....
If the frame is stripped and ready to paint not much at a local body shop.
(With care you can do it yourself with spray cans and get a decent job)

If fully assembled.....a LOT more at a local body shop.

It all comes down to the time consuming labor intensive prep work to
get the bike ready to paint. ;) ;)

If the frame is stripped, you might even be able to find a DIY powdercoating place in your neck of the woods.

I had my already-stripped frame powdercoated for $75 a couple of years ago. That was for the main frame and the fork, two color coats and a clear coat. Having them strip it would have upped the price to $90, and considering what I went through to strip the old paint, I should have bitten at that deal! Unless you're looking for some fancy effects, powdercoating is the way to go - it's much more durable than paint. You said your frame is Chromoly, but if it were aluminum you'd have to make sure they used low-temp powdercoat so as not to ruin the temper.

Okay so what is powdercoating?

Electrostatically applied powder laquer that is then baked at 275-400 degrees F. so it all melts together and adheres to the substrate (frame).

Powdercoating ran me $75. One coat. It's very durable.

My prices start at $200. More if you DO want a fade and/or pin stripes.
