Can someone explain this?
I was riding along on a perfect day, and I was suddenly distracted by the sqawk, accompanied by the sound of fluttering wings on a vicious swoop, of a magpie. A good four months before the magpie season is due to start! What is going on here? At least he left my ears alone this time.

Foreshadowing?

It was obviously confused. Next time, try holding up a calendar and explaining that it's not time yet.

Hey Chris you ever seen the movie "the Birds"?:o
|
See it? He's lived it.

I was almost attacked by a hawk or falcon or some big bird of prey riding up the road a few weeks ago.. flew right at the side of me, and pulled up about 5 feet away.. scared the crap outta me !

I've been getting dive-bombed by hummingbirds in my driveway. The smallest bird there is is picking a fight with me.

The scariest thing that has ever happened to my on a bike that didn't involve humans or autos:
I was spinning slowly up a steep section of fire road , a ridge to the right, a hollow to the left, when somethig huge buzzed my head with a terrible loud noise. It scared the s#*@ out of me. Almost knocked me off of the bike. A wild turkey had flown from the ridge into the hollow and apparently was trying to impress me. I was impressed. I didn't even know the things could fly like that. |
I've been swooped by magpies in the past and it's pretty scarey - but a wild turkey? I'd stay off my bike for a week while I went to therapy.

I've was buzzed by an owl (HUGE, must have been 3 to 4ft wingspan) - it was gliding downhill right towards me on a climb about 3 ft above the ground. It looked up and saw me - our eyes locked, he flicked his wings once or twice and silently flew over me only about 2ft over my head.
What a rush that was! |

Try having an 12 foot aligator walk across a trail about 15 feet in front of you. Thankfully we scared the piss out of each other and both left in opposite directions at high speed.

While doing the MS-150 ride in San Antonio, TX several years ago a deer crossed the rode right in front of me. If I had been two seconds faster he would have hit me. It was pretty amazing. I heard the rustling in the trees and then with one or two bounds he was across the road and into the woods.
I needed to stop and clean out my shorts because of that :) Zack |

If a hummingbird is dive bombing you persistently, look around for a nest. They are quite willing to nest over trails or other places people frequently pass. Yes, the nest is appropriately small, but as the frequency of bombing runs increases you will know you are getting closer. Once you spot it, you can use binoculars from a little distance to get a good look at tiny family life.

i was hanging on a ledge overlooking the painted desert in Arizona... a gust of wind and right in front of me hovered a golden eagle....magnificent :) apparently they like to catch some air too lol.
talk about being intimidated.... i was swimming across the lake in the sioux and this gigantic deerfly followed me for most of the swim.. i couldn't stop cuz it would try taking a bite out of my arm of head... they are almost as big as hummingbirds! must have looked pretty comical to those on shore waiting for me, as they all had a good laugh at me trying to swat the air as i swam :p |
It's not possible that you had accidental left your fly open and he was diving for a small worm**********

 I thought it was eagles that had good eyesight not magpies.

Red-Wing Blackbirds around here get nasty at about this time of year, too. I guess they are nesting right now.
Does anybody know-are Blackbirds members of the Corvid family? It seems that Corvids are the most likely to do this. |
It is beginning to look like this is some kind of animal plot to take over the world:eek:
