From humble beginnings...

I was recently going through some old pictures that my mom keeps and I came across this laughtastic picture from the first day I ever rode a bike without training wheels. My dad, always knowing when hilarious disaster is ready to strike, had his camera (and impeccable timing) at the ready.

(sorry about the crappy quality- I don't have a scanner and this is a digital picture of the original print.)

From this to living a car free lifestyle some 27 years later. I guess the impending doom of that moment didn't stick with me for very long ;)

I figured that I've read so much valuable information on this forum that I would give a laugh as payment. And please, feel free to post your own bike related humiliating pictures so I don't feel like the only uncoordinated fool :o

woa..woa..wooaaa-smack.
That's freakin hilarious!

ahem, sorry for your pain. And congrats on the car free living!
I'd share too, but no one ever had a camera handy for my mishaps.

Obey the posted speed limit, then that stuff won't happen.
SPEED KILLS!!

heh. I was riding on the wrong side of the road too

That is GREAT! Thanks for sharing.

Your dad knows a good opportunity when he sees it. Funny stuff!

Kid runs into car speed limit sign at young age

Kid grows up to not own car

Coincidence?

That may also explain my innate hatred of Schwinn products... At least I think the bike was a Schwinn.

Seriously though I wish I still had that bike. I must have put a million miles on it... once I figured out how to use that damn coaster brake.

Edit:
No one has mentioned my poor mother running frantically down the street to save me from my early demise. Heh, she pretty much hates the fact that I ride a bike now- I wonder why?

haha way to go boy I like it.

I wouldnt have any sort of photos like that, I dont think most people would.. props to your dad for knowing when to capture the moment!

You should write this to Bicycling magazine. Maybe you'd win the monthly tool giveaway. Its better than lots of past winners. It brings back memories.

That's not a bad idea actually. I could be FAMOUS (or more like infamous)

Thanks for the idea.

*Edit:
Any idea what the email/snail mail address is that I would need to send this to?

This was when my dad was trying to teach me how to ride a bike: apparently it wasn't going well.

This is another shot of the bike- I'm pretty sure it was a schwinn. Sure was a sweet ride. It was a hand-me-down from my brother who was like 12 years older than me: I think we all rode it.

This is a fun one. My mom took it of me when I was in high school. I'd always wait until the last moment and then race to the bus stop and throw my bike in the bushes. In this one I'm trying to chase the bus down as it passes me.

Hey don't apologize for the poor pic quality, in fact if you're sending it in to that rag send them the digital version you've posted here. I thought I was looking at a Rockwell or something at first glance, looks great.

That's the trouble with Mum's-Too caring. Bet she still bakes an apple pie for you at weekends- but tells you when it will be out of the oven and then cause you grief if you are 10 minutes late.

I have no pictures of me biking when I was young, but I do have the first ride of my 25Year old daughter in the back garden. Have to get it scanned into digital sometime.
Treasure that picture and get it blown up into a poster to remind your mum that she worries too much.

I think my mom actually thought it was funny- else she wouldn't have been taking a picture if you know what I mean.
