Roller advise
Can I get some input on rollers? I'm looking at the Cycleops Aluminum 3.5 in rollers. I've used the Minora Mag rollers with the 4.5 in drums. Will I get similar resistance using a smaller drum and no mag or fluid resistance? Will the 3.5 have different 'feel' than the larger drum? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the input!

Avivino,
You need to be patient my good man (or woman), these things take time! anyhow, back to your question. My experience is that the smaller diameter will give more "resistance" without the mag/fluid unit. Yes the feel will be similiar, but my experience is that you will ramp up the speed quicker without the resistance units. I believe that Kreitler explains it better on their web site (haven't been there for a while). it is Kreitler Rollers hope this helps, Marty |
I'm sorry I can't answer your specific question, but have you tried using the search facility with 'trainer', etc.
I started a thread asking about trainers, and it was suggested to me that I check back using the search facility as there are a number of threads dealing with similiar issues. By the way, what kind of bike do you ride. Only asking since I'm probably going to get a trainer before this winter and was wondering if they are suitable for a mtb. Cheers, Portent |
By the way, what kind of bike do you ride.
I ride a Trek 2300 road. I borrowed a set of Mag rollers from the shop where I work and really enjoy using them over my stationary. However the drums are not a true as expected. They are AL drums but not very smooth. As with a stationary I would get slicks if plan on using rollers. I |

Yes, I know. I tend to be impatient at times. You should see me in traffic. I can get a decent deal on Cycleops rollers w/AL drums, but they don't come with a resistance device, and it appears one cannot be added. They are 3.5 in diameter and from what I read the smaller drum will provide more resistance. I'm asking because I have never used smaller drums and want to know if they would compensate with respect to resistance. |
I have an older set of Minoura rollers
4 (or 4.5) inch drums. I rode the Cyclops rollers and there is a good deal of difference (at least in my opinion). Warped rollers? thats very unusual for aluminium, tend to hear that about PVC rollers. FWIW Xavier who runs a shop, recommended PVC for the simple reason that if you drop something on Alu rollers they dent. Did you check out the Kreitler web site? lots of good info there. Marty |
If you are looking for a trainer (not rollers) try 1up. They make one awsome piece of equipment. I have one that I used this winter and it has been great!
