New Mexico riding?

I'm going down to Santa Fe New Mexico for a month. Any body ridden there? How are the roads and traffic? Hoping the weather is warm enough. I'm going light and hoping to camp along the way. Are the dogs a problem?

Okay

1. When are you going? Makes a lot of difference as to weather. SF is at 7,000 feet.

2. If you are going in May, there is the SantaFeCentury which is a great century if you like that sort of thing.

3. Where are you starting?

There is a bicycle club in SF - try a google.

Wide open spaces. You can see some pics of the SF Century at:

Also, of course, a lot of hills and mtns north of SF. Didn't see any dogs on the SFC, but I am sure they are there.

If your into trail riding there's a great trail there called the Windsor Trail. Some pics here . Also there is a great Mexican restaraunt between Sante Fe and Taos called Embudo Station. Outside dining and live music on the banks of the Rio Grande River. Great food and Jalapeno beer! :)

Thanks for the reply's! I'll be taking Amtrak to Lamy the end of this month and riding up through S.F. to Taos and beyond. That S.F. century look great, thanks for the pics. I'll check out the Enduro!
I'm going light so I can climb the hills, just a tarp for shelter. I'm assuming I won't need screen for bugs!

You haven't stated your level of experience. Just in case you are not aware (although from what you stated, I would guess you are very experienced), be aware that temps in the Rockies at the during April and May can vary wildly, from snow to near 100 degrees.

Did some time in NM some years ago. Wear tire liners. Lots of goathead thorns on the roads.

Thanks for the tip on the thorns. Maybe between those and the steep climbs I'll take my Mountian Bike!
I see there are also products to put in the tube that help keep it from going flat.
It's been 30 years since I took my last multi month ride!
