2007 Goals

How are you all doing boys and girls.

Just wondering what your riding goals are for 2007.

Would be cool to try and guage what everyone's looking to achieve....

Im looking to do a Melbourne to Sydney Charity ride...

I am looking to loose 50 lbs, ride a metric century, put 1000 miles on the bike, and not take a dirt nap in the process.

Metric Century in July (Hell ride in Michigan!), full Century in September, lose 15 pounds, see Niagara Falls by bike, cruise at 15 mph solo.

3000 miles, at least 5 races and maybe a triathlon or a marathon. Would also like to get a road bike but need to run that by the other half first.

~ I should be able to easily get 3,000 miles this year, since I have 2,501 up to Dec. 31st, but I couldn't ride well for about 5 weeks in the spring due to 3 broken ribs, then a few weeks downtime waiting for certain parts, etc.

~ Centuries and metrics I'm OK with, had plenty in '06 and '05. But what I'm going to try is a train ride to Boston, then ride back (me & a riding bud). There's a pretty tough mountain somewhere on the route that he wants to do (forgot the name), so it'll be an all day ride for sure, at least a double century.

~ Finally get the parts upgrades done that I wanted to do last year. Then get off the upgrade/new bike merry-go-round for awhile. Well, at least until I can afford the custom frame I've lusted for.

~ Find new/more interesting places to ride. I'm bored!

My goals:

1) Super Randonneur series (200K, 300K, 400K, and 600K)
2) This year, I need to design local 400K and 600K routes to add to the Alberta Randonneur calendar. That should be interesting. There are some very specific rules to follow for route designing, and then there are many things which appear on most randonneurs' wish lists.
3) Paris-Brest-Paris ... http://www.audax-club-parisien.com/
4) 10,000 kms or more
5) Centuries ... this one I'm still debating about. I may decide to do a third year of centuries each month, or I may decide to aim for a certain number of centuries for the year, or both. I'm also tempted by the idea of doing a non-stop century or perhaps a trainer century.
6) Touring ... I'd like to do a bit more touring in 2007 than I did in 2006. There's a local 3 day tour in the mountains in May which is one possibility. And if possible it would be great to do some touring in France and maybe other parts of Europe.
7) More roads ... I've covered most, but not quite all, of the paved roads within about a 50 mile radius of where I live. I'd like to ride the rest of them, and then perhaps start exploring futher out.
8) 24-hour race ... I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to afford the time and expense of getting to a 24-hour race this year, but I'd like to try. I wish there was a local one!!
9) Something different ... the UMCA has all sorts of challenges, one of which is a cross state or province challenge: http://www.ultracycling.com/ , then the Perimeter organization has around-the-state/city/island/whatever challenges http://www.pbaa.com/Home.html
10) And if I'm not working when they hold their rides this coming summer, I may try to do some riding with the local club ... I need motivation to add intensity to my rides.

In addition to all of this, I've got an on-going goal of riding in all the provinces in Canada, all the states in Australia, all the states in the US, and as many other countries as possible. I've made quite a bit of progress on it. I'm halfway for Canada, over halfway for Australia, and nearly halfway for the US. I'm not exactly sure what's going to happen this year, but if all goes well, I might be able to add an extra US state, and possibly another country or two.

The problem with getting much more mileage is it prevents doing other interesting things like: work/earning a living, time with your kids, other hobbies, friends/relationships, etc.

I agree. That's part of the reason why I'm limiting myself to the goals I mentioned this year. No sense killing myself out there!!

Not only that, but it's good also to take some rest time off the bike on occasion, even when you're hitting the best part of your fitness for the season.

I'd just like to continue taking what I'm doing now in the same direction.
More miles. Less weight.

To get all of my shopping done and my plane tickets booked.
To do all that without falling into debt. (fortunately, I have an upcoming birthday and a wishlist to help avoid that. )

Start training for my tour. Lose 10 pounds.

Try to get enough skill so I can at least be in the back of a road pack, and make it to my 2008 goals without any broken bones, road rash, teeth intact, etc.

i'm with mlts22 - start moving up from the one "intro" club ride I did last year, and see where I really fit in.

and workout consistently - 2x week lift + crosstrain at gym, 2x week ride (or rollers/crosstrain as weather permits).

with any luck i'll replace 10lbs of fat with muscle.

Mine is very close to yours, except my wife won't be riding for physical reasons. Also, can you tell me why we need two 6's in our list.
