sometimes it's actually legit. I've been wanting to subscribe to Bicycling Magazing for a while now, and I happened to find a 2 year subscription on ebay for around $2.00. I thought, why not, if it's not legit, it's only two bucks. I just got the December 2006 and January 2007 issues in today. We'll see if they come for 2 years now.

Well even if you don't get any more, December 2006 and January 2007 are two different years.

I remember reading once that magazines give out these low-priced subscriuptions to places like Publishers Clearinghouse and the magazine gets screwed on the initial deal, but hopes that the person will re-subscribe at full price,,,,, but the respondents of these offers have among the lowest re-subscription rates of all.

Newspapers often are willing to sell subscriptions that are all but giving the paper away. They make their money on the ads and how much they make is based on circulation. But ad purchasers want some assurance people actually read the paper, so they only pay for people who bought it. I'm sure the same runs true for mags, though perhaps not quite as extreem.

I own a small business and we've been getting an average of at least a dozen+ major magazines each month for the past 20 years. They seem to rotate the titles from time to time. I have no idea how we got on the list and I ain't complaing....
