Garmin Forerunner 301 HR problems

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but does anyone have a solution to erratic HR readings from this device? When I first got it over a year ago it was awful, but over the past several months it has been fine, with the occasional hiccup, until the past week or so when it has begun to intermittently read either 1/2 or sometimes double my actual HR. I've tried replacing the battery, moistening the strap with saliva, moistening it with Bu-Bump(?), leaving it dry, using a different gel, mixing saliva and gel, resetting the HR scan all to no avail. This effing thing drives me nuts - but I like all the other functions Is the 305 any better for HR?

Call Garmin. They may be able to service it for free/reasonable fee.

Thanks - I just looked on their FAQs for the 301 and they suggest cyclists wear the sensor on their backs if there are problems like I'm experiencing. I'll try that tomorrow.

You might want to check garminf at yahoo groups, http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/GarminF.
They have lots of information concerning the garmin units.
