Any German cyclists???
 

I'm looking to tour your excellent country in late April, for 9 days, possibly from Lake Consance to Salzburg, or maybe around the Black Forest, but we're finding difficult getting flights that are bike freindly.
I heard that it is possible to rent bikes from stations in Germany, taking them from one station and leaving them at another.
Can you tell me if they are readilly available, if they are suitable for touring, and if there are any links to any places which offer the service.

Isn't Salzburg in Austria?

Nit picky, eh? And Lake Constance (Bodensee) also borders Austria, as well as Switzerland. Great bike riding, been there, done that. It isn't that hard to cross the borders anymore. Salzburg is just across the border and they do speak Deutsch.

You're right, but I haven;t head of them renting bikes in Austrian stations.

No. It's just you have to watch out for all those singing nuns and kids running around in Austria. West Germany had pretty much solved it's singing nun and kid problem with some tough no clothes from drapes legislation back in the 60's. But Austria has along way to go. I was once clotheslined in Piber by a spinning nun's flailing arms. Take it from me Gotte, if you see anyone who is wearing clothes made from drapery material, just ring your bell and watch 'em scatter. Just make sure you have a good bike bell and ring it constantly, cause Austria is thick with them.

That reminds me of the time my family and I were vacationing near Salzburg. I missed a classic Kodak Moment of my kids impromptou racing up a grassy hill with the Austrian/German Alps background ala Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music. Location: the site of Herman Goering's demolished home, in Obersalzburg-Berchtesgaden, Germany. Beautiful real estate with some very bad past homeowners.

See... that proves my point. Especially when they do that arms out, head tilted back and start to spin thing. I admit though it's worse in Pisa, Italy. All those people getting that photo shot of them holding up the leaning tower. If you're not in the camera's view angle, the whole thing is pretty frikkin weird. 20 or 30 tourists in that pose could easily take out a cyclist.
