So, I have tons of cycling stuff that I no longer use(they're all shimano 10 speed stuff) for sale but going through ebay would mean a full time job. I'm a college student so partying has become a 24/7 job. Just kidding, I'm a very diligent kid. The ebay route is okay but I'll probably destroy my 100% FB because I simply do not have time to ship or will ship with weeks of delay. I've tried Craigslist but there are so many people asking questions without buying. Is there a less time-consuming method of getting rid of high-end cycling equipments without giving the stuff away por gratis??? I'm thinking of a cycling pawn shop, if such shop even exists.

Well, then an easier solution will be to put dump everything in the trash. However, I'm sure there will be an explosion of "look what I found..." posts everywhere with the common replies, "whoever....is an idiot." I'm saving the forum here from some serious post spammage by asking for suggestions.

Well, I don't have paypal (nor do I want to apply-terrible company)...so the last time I sold anything on ebay(reqesting MO or Check as form of payment) I didn't get nearly enough money for the item. I'm curious what percent cuts the companies that sell your stuff on ebay ends up getting? Anyone has any experience with them? I remember buying something from such company....ISOLDIT! or something like that.

For me they were easy to deal with and they took paypal.

Pawn shops give the worst return. I would stick with ebay. If you schedule all your auctions to end at the same time, it will maximize your shipping efficiency. CL is good for selling junk that is worth less than the cost of shipping.

Suck it up and get a paypal account.

If you ebay through a third party (professionally) you will be getting screwed on the deal.

The alternatives involve throwing money away-- or having the inventory forever waiting for a local buyer on CL to purchase it. If you think the calls are bad--- wait until everyone wants to stop by and take a look at the stuff. Half won't show up, and you will be angry that you adjusted your schedule to meet with them.

When I was an active seller on ebay, I developed a spreadsheet to chart expenses. Basically, a good rule of thumb was 10% on expense for an item under $100 That was several years ago. Today maybe 12%. PayPal takes a couple of points off the top.

This is the time of year to sell. Winter is upon us in most of the country. Guys are sitting at the computer bidding on parts for future builds. When summer comes everyone is out riding. I would sell the stuff now, a few pieces a week so you can ship expediently. Good luck

You're a college kid and you don't have time to sell on e-bay? More like too lazy to sell the stuff...am I right? I sell stuff on e-bay all the time and also have 100% feedback. A couple of pictures, photobucket web space....a description cloned from similar items off e-bay and you are in the game.
What's the big deal? As for shipping...you say you can't ship expeditiously...why not? Why would Craigslist be any better if you can't ship sold stuff out on time?
I think you posted your plea rhetorically....nah...I don't like Shimano.

If you don't have time now, then the real world will be a slap in the face. There are a hundreds of ways to sell unwanted stuff, figure it out. Throw it away and forget it, if that is your best option

As others have said, you could donate a couple bucks to this site and sell it here. You could also put it in the "for trade" threads if you need other stuff.
If you don't want to sell it yourself, you can take it to any of the places that will sell it on ebay for you. I'd agree with the others that have said you might want to sell it yourself, in spite of your paypal aversion.
Lastly, if your college has a cycling club, you could hit them up.

What about the company makes it terrible... aren't they a subsidiary of eBay? If PayPal is a terrible company, then should we avoid eBay too?

People complain about the fees (just like for eBay), but if you were to sit down and do some math you might find that it is a relative bargain.

Companies accept credit cards only partially for customer convenience, they encourage the use because it is cheaper for them than accepting cash....

For the little 3% (or whatever it is) you avoid:

1) waiting for the funds to be mailed

2) waiting for the check to clear

3) the trip to the bank or check cashing place (and if you go to a check cashing place they will charge more than PayPal)

You gain:

Some protection, plus the ability to handle your shipping very easily by printing pre-paid shipping labels.

PayPal makes less sense with small dollar amounts, but so does eBay.

Or is there another reason I have missed that PayPal is terrible?

Consider the few cents you spend on PayPal as a discount for the buyer so they don't have to spend the $1 or so for going to the post office, envelope, paper and postage to send you a check...

I personally specify PayPal only for my few auctions... and rarely buy from anyone not offering PayPal.

All of this to say, iIf I were you, I would go the ebay route after getting a PayPal account. You have a much larger target market that way. And find a way to take the 10 minutes to ship in order to protect your feedback rating.

EDIT: I work for the Postal Service, and we do appreciate making 39 cents per check sent in the mail... just in case someone thinks I am a PayPal employee based on my advocacy above. Ship Prioirty or Express mail and you can even get the box for free...

I sold all my old stuff to this guy from South Africa. He sent me a money order for $1800(USD), and asked me to send it all to his daughter in Ireland after keeping $1000 for myself. Awesome deal .

No time for ebay but finds time for bikeforums? Paypal is a bad company because why? Because they charge 3%? (They saved my butt a couple times with less then honest ebay sellers.) What do you think Visa or Master Card charges retailers at the mall to accept payments with their cards?

I suggest an honor stand out in front of your house. Set up a card table, some signs and lay out the parts with prices.

Also, leave bank account information and ask your buyers to deposit the money directly.

A couple years ago I cleaned out my rather substantial cache of Harley parts. I didn't really have the time or the patience for ebay, so I made a deal with a friend of mine. He needed some extra cash bad, so I let him handle selling all the stuff on ebay and we split the money that was made. Easy for me, profitable for both of us.

Ship it all to me, I'll sell it on ebay for you for a cut less than Isoldit or those other people. Just can't promise I won't hold a few pieces back as well though.

Seriously, load them all up at the same time so you only have to make one trip to the post office. State in your auction that items will be shipping out within 5 days of payment so you have some elbow room to get to the post office with all the stuff stated up front. Or do groups of parts as lots. You may not get quite as much for it as if you sold each individual part, but the loss probably won't be too much.
