Only 140 bikes? Seems like that wouldn't be too hard to break...

Could it be because it had never been done with just bikes before & as just a parade?

Would think that something like CM would be bigger than this...even still, 140 shouldn't be a hard record to break, if someone wanted to break it.

Unofficially, CM was numbering in the THOUSANDS. But, they never officially applied for a parade permit.

RAGBRAI is kind of like a parade but of course then you'd have to count them all.

In the photo, all the cyclists are riding single-file.

Try getting CMers to do that! It'd be like trying to herd cats.

Yeah, that's the problem, CM is nowhere near as controlled, plus because of their ideals, they aren't actually a parade. Although I see no reason why a parade should need to ride single file, most normal parades don't.

As far as RAGBRAI goes, i'm not very familiar with it, but it didn't seem to be something where all the bikers stayed together consistantly, although my only experience with it was having a team stay a night in my place when I was like 4.

30 000 participants at the "tour de l'île" in Montreal. 5000 just for the night tour.
