Opinions Of Salsa Frames

I have been looking at the Chili Con Crosso frame ($775). It's a scandium cyclocross frame. How are these frames? Are they worth the price? Is scandium enough of a justification to charge this much for it?

It has a sweet paint job, and their description of the frame is so ridiculous ("the gun at the knife fight") that I am very tempted to purchase one.

I have the Las Cruces which is the same frame in orange

It's a very nice bike. Light and nimble. Mine came with fender/rack mounts which it looks like the new one doesn't and disc mounts - blech:p . Mine was around $900 but it had a matching carbon fork.

My son has a Moto Rapido, and he LOVES it. Light, flexible, strong... what more can you ask for? More cute little chili peppers?

Hey, I have the same frame, but I set mine up a bit differently. I have nothing but good things to say about the Salsa. It looks, and rides super sweet. I really like the green frame also!!! :)

That's just the winter coat. If it ever warms up around here lots of that stuff is coming off;)

Huh?

I guess I should have used a different word... it doesn't rattle him all over?

Well, for that much cheese, it darn well better ;)

I love my steel Salsa. It's in my sig.
One thing of which you should be aware: Salsa likes compact frames and you very well may "kick" the front tire at slow speeds. I have given my front fender hell but it's held up well. It's something you get used to quickly and never happens at speeds over 5mph or so.

Actually not the same as a Las Cruces...

Same material, different design and tube shapes...

That being said, you get a lot a bang for the buck, even at the $ when you get a Salsa. I love my Las Cruces...

They're Salsa Delgados laced to a 36 hole Campy Record hub (yes, 36 holes and it's the only Campy I own:( ) with DT Alpine III spokes. The rear uses the same spokes and rim but it's laced to a 36 hole XT hub. I built both wheels...as I do with most of my wheels.

The Delgados are part of my Salsafication of the bike. I have a Salsa post, a Bell Lap handlebar (46cm), a Salsa Moto Ace stem and seat collar.

The headset is an orange King and the other orange bits...stem cap, barend plugs, and valve caps...are from Purely Custom.

And my orange bar tape looks so much better than damocles1's white tape;) (Just kidding. Nice bike.)

damocles1 03-06-07 09:41 AM

Yeah, the white lasted exactly one ride (shakedown) and one muddy race.

It's been wearing black tape and Ksyrium SLs these days...after my sponsor wheels spontaneously exploded...I won't mention names...

Cyclaholic 03-06-07 11:47 AM

Heh, yeah, I went thru that white bartape stage too... never again  :p otherwise a very sexy bike you have there, damocles... nice wheels!

I might have to try the Delgado rim. My wheels are Mavic 319 rims laced to 36-spoke LX hubs with Alpine III's. I just found a small crack developing at a spoke hole on my rear rim, this is my 2nd cracked rear rim in 10,000 pretty hard commuting miles.

Jeesh you guys, these orange Las Cruces are just hot!... now I want one. how the heck am I going to get this one past the wife? :D

"Umm...no it's not new Honey. It's always been orange....errr...I just painted it...errr...none of the parts are new...um...Move over, Rover." :D

damocles1 03-06-07 02:10 PM

Other bikes come and go, but there will always be 2 road rigs and a cross rig in the quiver. The wife has given up...

I still ride white tape on the road bikes, but white for cross racing was pretty pointless...
