Packing list - weekend tour
What do you pack for a weekend tour?
I am bringing everything with me on the bike in a large seat bag, and a handlebar bag. T-Shirt Shorts - non-riding Jersey and shorts for day 2 sunscreen tube patch kit tire levers multi-tool toothbrush shampoo & soap Tissue Pump Camelbak or bottles - haven't decided yet I still have a little room in my bags, and haven't touched my jersey pockets. The weather looks good, so the windbreaker is not going. Anything else? |
I guess your not camping eh? TP! The parts of Iowa I've seen it can be miles between rest stops.
Look at the corn, Ive never seen so much corn! Miles and miles of corn..... Just kidding, the parts of Of Iowa I've been to are beautiful. And if anyone asks I can yes I rode my bike up Pikes Peak, I just don't tell them it was was Pikes Peak, Iowa :) http://www.state.ia.us/dnr/organiza/ppd/pikepeak.htm |
Though you both tour in Iowa it sounds like you and NC are on the opposite ends of the spectrum as far as gear needs lol.In addition to loading my jersey pockets with food and water (and toilet paper, paper towels etc.I tend to accumulate along the way)if I have any extra room it is usu. more food(high in potassium+sodium) and water I add.You will be surprised how fast water in a camelback goes and it is helpful to have a small reserve less accessable. Also I always take a windbreaker in a stuff sack as I never trust the weather reports.

Yes, no camping.
We are traveling 68 miles from Iowa City to Fairfield. We will be staying overnight at the Maharishi University of Mangement. I am not into transendental meditation, but I am anxious to get the tour of the campus and domes. They will be putting us up in the dorms overnight and providing towel and bedding. |
I can't ride without a camera.
|
I would usually take a map and compass, some adhesive tape (1m of ducktape).
If you can dry your riding clothes overnight, you dont need spares. I would probably only take one jersey,or take 2 and use my spare as a T shirt for the night. Ditch the soap, you can usually find some at a B+B/hostel. Take a hotel sachet of shampoo. Your toothbrush can double up as a tyre lever. No only kidding :) |
I just found a pair of "packable" shorts. They are thin nylon cargo shorts sold at Kohl's. They fold up into one of the pockets.
I also bought the large Cannondale seat bag (yeah, I had to get the Cdale one, I am such a poser) and it holds my spare jersey, shorts, spare tube, tools, with room to spare. |
Hairbrush, hat, floss, undies?
