Thanks for your comments guys (and gals). In answer to a couple of questions, no I didn't think to insure it (I've got third-party insurance, but nothing to protect me - stupid huh!). However, I can afford to replace it because I have a rather generous redundancy package from a previous job on the way pronto (it was coming anyway, I didn't ring up and demand it from them when my bike went, honest!).

No, I haven't had that bike for very long, a little over a year, or around 22,000km. I also just replaced a heap of worn components about two weeks ago. I've got eyes all over the Gold Coast checking porn shops and so on, and I've already contacted two bike shops to see if it turns up there. I might even send something to the bike-qld list in case it turns up in Brisbane (stranger things have happened).

Damn it's annoying to have a bike stolen!

If you bought the bike on your credit card, check your credit card policies. Some companies have policies where the bike will be insured if you bought it with your credit card.

Also consider getting together with your parents. If they have their cars and other valuables insured, perhaps you can get the insurance coverage under your parents' company?

It's more than annoying to have a bike stolen- it's a travesty!

Man that SUCKS that really blows I really donb't know what to say man I hope you get it back

danr 05-21-03 06:48 PM

Good luck Chris. I really hope that the crud that stole your bike gets what he deserves (and I'm not talking about a free bike; more like time with bubba in a jail cell).

Hey dude, I would file report. Check out local pawn shops, walk around or ridr around neighborhood. Put some notes on telegraph posts with reward for information leading to finding a bike. Describe it and attacha picture. And also, at least here in Los Angeles area, lot's of people ride bikes on the beach, so often, the bike can be spotted there after the theft. Try something similar in your area... Put post i n local newspaper: Will buy a bike, and describe something slightly like yours. Thiev might try to sell it.
FIND IT!
Wish you luck!

Sorry to hear the bad news Chris. I can only imagine how defiled it must make you feel. Hang in there brother.

Louis

My condolences Chris.

Having had 2 bikes stolen in the past I know the feeling and sorry to report never a sight of them again.

I do`nt know about OZ, but in the U.K. there is a thriving "steal to order" almost an industry running, the scumbags are on the look-out for anything decent to lift then sell it on to their backroom pub clients, a despicable buisness.

Was the garage you refer to on your own property if so have a look on your home insurance policy maybe you have some cover for your cycle that way.

:roflmao:

The thing is, I actually had it as "pawn" shops initially, then changed it (that's what I get for coming here at 5am).

Yeah, I've got something on the BicycleGoldCoast website already. One of my riding buddies with a digital camera put a pic of it up there for me (I don't know where he got that pic from, but it's there!). I've been on the lookout for the *****s (see Raiyn's post above) and called the cops. However, I don't realistically expect to get it back. As someone said to me already, it may not even be on the 'Coast anymore.

Absolutely not! I want to see him (her) pull up along side me at a set of lights on it one day, so I can send out a big "f**k you" by dropping them effortlessly on my new mount, which will be on the road by the weekend.

It was at work, I'm trying to get it on their policy. I don't know how good my chances are, but they can only say "no".

You know, all things considered I would ask him... :D

So what's your new set of wheels like?

New wheels aren't quite ready yet. I'm getting a couple of things changed/upgraded before I take them out and wring their neck. Just a final note (in case there's anyone on the forum who hasn't seen it yet), a pic of me and the old bike during happier times last November (check out the spanky helmet hair!):

:) Chris,Does that say John's on your riding shorts. If so who makes them? This would be cool to have my name on my shorts.

jim-bob 05-22-03 12:48 PM

bike thieves should be locked to parking meters by the neck. i think that'd be apt, somehow.

orguasch 05-22-03 02:36 PM

sorry to hear about your lose, dude, right now if we can get hold of that guy/or gal we cold beating the s*******t of him/her/ its might be to kind a thing, for him/her, so we feed him/her to the piranha

wabbit 05-22-03 05:23 PM

That really sucks. I had the same thing happen to me years ago. Not a really great bike like I have now, but it was stolen out of my apartment building garage, where it was locked up. Obviously it had to be the work of a resident who knew someone. What filthy scum. I felt the same way you do. Steal a car, fine, but a bike that I had saved up to buy, that is the lowest of the low.

The Terminator 05-22-03 05:41 PM

My sincere condolonces. I recently had a 3-wheeler atv stolen from my garage, I understand your fustratation. The good thing is that I know who the punk is that did it. I promise, some of my friends will be feeding him a mouthful of dirt when we catch up with him. I am in a "club" that makes people like him eat dirt, and if you know who they are, you know all about making trash eat dirt. - Ted

Funny, that was my first thought...

:D

Man, nothing will stop the Chis-man from riding, tho.

You'll solve your dilemma and be cruising again, while that knucklehead will be tangled in the problems he made for himself.

Smile, you're on the upswing, Chris-man. Cream rises to the top, you know.

Inoplanetyanin 05-22-03 10:08 PM

I wonder if all this posts made Chris feel any better...

"Johns" is the name of my LBS. I don't know if he sells on line, but I can make enquiries of you're interested.

Thank you for your kind words, I welcome "constructive criticism" like that. :D I just got my new wheels this evening. Thankfully my financial situation isn't as bad as it was a couple of years ago. I'll be back on the bike tomorrow morning. :D

It did, thanks guys. I even had one member PM me offering financial assistance (I politely declined - for once I have the resources to solve this without relying on someone else's generosity). I've had people at work offering to lend me old bikes they had lying around until I got my new wheels. I guess it goes to show that while there is bike-thieving scum out there, there are plenty of good people around, too. :)

What a great story. You deserve it.

Sorry to hear about your situation :(

Glad to hear you have new wheels :)

caloso 05-23-03 11:16 AM

Sorry about the theft of your beloved bike, but glad to hear you've got a new steed and will be out on the road again.
