Usually my roommate and I run our BMXs and dirt jump MTBs with a low seat or none at all. Why?
Clearance for doing tricks. Nothing is worse than nailing your junk on a seat during a landing on after a good jump. Or getting hung up on the seat and wrecking. On these types of bikes you usually are standing and rarely need the seat. The only time I sit is on the way to the park or campus, then I pull the seat until I am done messing around on ramps, jumps, etc. Lately I'm lazy and have been leaving it out all together.

Two H's!!! TWO!!!!!
These are bikes set up for doing tricks. Not for actual riding. Whatever riding is done on them is just to get to and from places where they gather to practice tricks or so.

Please 'splainit to me.
