What a GREAT Group
 

I know that I am considered sort of strange by a number of you, but that is okay. Hey, why should you folks be any different than anyone else? :D

But, I would like to state that (with very rare exceptions), this is one of the most intelligent, verbal, communicative and generally supportive groups around. The level of writing is excellent, thoughts are well organized and composed.

There must be something unique about bicyclers!! At least those who find their way here.

Just kidding. Yeah, I really like this forum. I belonged to two other forums before I moved here a little over a year ago, thanks to Catfish. I never even looked back.

We are a bit excessive, I've been told on a regular basis But the thing we all know. WE ARE THE ONLY NORMAL HUMANS ON THE PLANET.

Cyclist are an odd breed. I think that is why we all get along so well. Great forum here.

If that is truely the case, then I'm leaving. I hate being normal! To be thought of as intellectual is the last straw!

actually i find that cyclists in general are really great people --- more friendly, interesting, thoughtful, helpful and intelligent than the norm...

must be something about a person that brings them to enjoy cycling...

or is it that cycling relieves stress and generates interest (as you see more of the world than from a car window) and keeps you mentally and physically fit...

actually, i bet it's a little of both: many interesting people seem to be intested in and cycling helps you experience the world...

but most cyclists i know like to travel and like to meet new people and learn about the world and other cultures and all ---- maybe not all cyclists, but a much greater percentage than the "regular" population.

i must admit that if i see a cyclist in need (flat tire, needind directions or whatever) i am almost sure to stop and help... with other people i often won't in big cities as most are just trying to ask you for money or scam you some way --- but for all but the most grungy cycle tourists i would offer my place to crash... (and i don't usually offer other strangers free lodging)

oh, as an aside:
i also find that there are a lot of really cool and interesting engineers and scientists, but there are also a lot who are real dorks (e.g. can't have a real conversation about anything not technical)... but if you combine cyclists and engineers, you weed out most of the dork engineers/scientists and have a really cool group... of course there are other cyclists who are also cool, but a really large number seem to be engineers --- anyway, anyone understand what i mean here, or am i taking a solo tour across a field with really high grass?

I think I've been stereotyped!
Hobbies=cycling and music
Profession=Chemist (although unemployed right now)
and come to think of it most people think I'm crazy.
I feel so "typical" here! Maybe I should go somewhere else.

Come to think of it...is anybody out there looking to hire a Chemist in the Atlanta area?

Nathank is right. In fact, the ones I get along with the best are bicyclists.

I know alot of physicians who are cyclists. Afterall it has great health benefits without grinding away at your joints (unless you hug a tree or smear the pavement). It's also a great stress relief. My best buddy is a thoracic surgeon who was a CAT2 racer in college and he is not the least bit pretentious or smug like some of his golf playing collegues. (I'm sorry, I hate golf!) I agree with Nathank, if you combine biking with "choice of profession" , you weed out the geeks and generally find some good, thoughtful people.

I belong to several discussion groups elsewhere on the net and this is one of the most civil. The only exception is the Political Forum in the Lounge.

I couldn't decide whether I should create a thread entitled, "It's an exhilirating time to be a grumpy right wing ideologue" or "It's an exhilirating time to be a snide, contrarian lefty". My indecision so vexed me, I decided to give up on thw whole idea.

I like how the boards are organized too. When I first came across the forum, I was totally amazed at how easy it was to manipulate around the forum and get exactly where you needed to go.
