Motivation problem update.

I took the past two weeks off the bike completely and this weekend was the first two rides of the new motivated me. It felt great to get out on the bike again and was once again enjoyable.

My wife and I went Friday and then again today to the silver comet trail and rode 36 miles each day. I pulled our daiughter in her chariot while she read books and played with her stuffed animals. Pulling that thing is a workout. We have it loaded with all the diaper stuff and food and fluids for Samantha and ourselves.
I guess it was like adding 70-80 lbs to the bike so I was not riding my fastest pace ever.

It was also our first time to ride this rail to trail project and it will become regular training for me. We got on it well outside of Atlanta close to powder springs where the crowds would be thinner. It was wonderful care free riding with no worries about cars and such.

I will be riding again tomorrow for lactic acid purging and recovery. Wednesday I plan to hit about 60 miles without the baby and see how I feel. Its time to get serious again. Got about 15 pounds to shed as well. I balloned up to about 205 during all my laziness.

Sometimes you just need to take a break, to realize why you enjoy cycling.

Great job!

And it's not laziness- it's a break from cycling, like a recovery time, that's all!

It sounds like you've got your mojo back!

Glad to see you're up and about again. Now you know what to do the next time it happens, but I doubt you'll be having that problem anytime soon, right?

Welcome back!

when i have experienced these types of motivational lapses, i found that the added pressure from the mental wear was tough. i have it beat into my head that 'if you aren't improving then you are getting worse' so layoffs are tough -->add that there is less than 100 days in this part of the world that are both in my schedule and pleasant....i can take motivational lapses in the dead of winter easier than when the weather is nice. not wanting to get on a trainer is at least understandable...

Sam,
Good for you! Odds are good that we may have passed on the trail. I was on it from 1:30 to 5:30 on Sunday. I took about 1 or 1 1/2 hour of breaks after getting in the first 15 or so miles, and then I rested about every 5 miles.

I did see one guy hauling his dog in a kiddy trailer. The door was unzipped and as I was passing him the dog tried to jump out and got dragged a little bit before the fellow could stop. I hollered back, and he said that he was OK.

I distinctly remembe passing one couple at around 5:00 on a bridge in Paulding Co. The stroller was in tow. Could it have been? best -

Breaks are good and necessary. When cycling becomes one more obligation, then there goes the fun. Rest, refresh, and saddle up!

That's great news, Sam!

How is the Silver Comet? I was really tempted yesterday to detour over to it on my way up from Warner Robins to check it out.

Are we still on for a Friday ride? If you want PM me and we'll work out the details for where to meet and what time, etc.

Zack
