Sounds like you see cycling more as a health thing than an enjoyment thing. The latter takes priority.

Maybe I am miss reading something, but if you are commuting on bicycle you are getting your aerobic conditioning. You could also cycle commute only a couple of days a week it the schedule will allow it. I have one guy I work with the drives to work on Monday's drops his clothes for the week. Leaves the car and rides home and then back on Tuesday. Again on Wednesday and Thursday morning. Car usually goes home on Thursday night, and the program repeats on Monday. He typically telecommutes on Fridays.

I never could do well finding time to ride...now making time to ride, that's very doable.
