BAM! And the dirt is gone.
I just rode to Canadian Tire and bought some "Easy-off BAM" to get rid of some rust on my chain. It says it removes soap scum, lime scale and rust stains so I though it deserves a try.
Now to my question... Is it okay for me to use it on my chain? I want to wipe off the lube, spray it, let it sit ten minutes, wipe that off and then relube |
I wouldn't use this stuff if it contains caustic soda / sodium hydroxide / NaOH. This will dull aluminum, not good for steel, not sure what it'll do with rubber, will burn your eyes and skin, and burn your lungs if you inhale the aerosol. I use mineral spirits. Many here swear by detergent-based cleaners like 'simple green'. Mineral spirits are flammable so use outdoors or with good ventilation & away from sparks & flame.

I perused Google & found there are several products named 'Easy off Bam'. I guess you mean 'Grime & Lime' product. Could not find a list of ingredients. From the excerpts below I would guess it could be harmful to the bike if not the chain itself & I wouldn't use it for cleaning the chain.
[Excerpts from the BAM Lime & Grime product FAQ] ... (removing any rubber gaskets) .... Before storing the tools, treat them with a coating of spray lubricant. ... should use a little EASY-OFF BAMŽ Grime & Lime Remover on a hidden area of the metal first. Always rinse surface promptly and thoroughly after use..... Q: Can EASY-OFF BAMŽ Grime & Lime Remover be used on every surface? A: The EASY-OFF BAMŽ Grime & Lime Remover formulation should not be used on natural marble, stone, terrazoo and may dull galvanized metal, polished or anodized aluminum, metallic or painted surfaces, colored grout and some fiberglass surfaces. It may streak colored plastic laminates used for countertops. Avoid contact with wood, fabric and wallpaper. |
